The biggest congratulations to Cody for his hard work in passing his Arboriculture ISA Certification! He truly has put in the time, the hyper focus nerd out sessions, and work in the field to accomplish this achievement!

A little bit about the certification and exam:

It’s an internationally recognized certification showing that the Arborist has professional knowledge and practical skill in the field of Arboriculture. The state of Texas does not require this distinct Arborist qualification although some municipalities and cities prefer it for professional tree care.

To qualify for the exam you must have one of the following:
- 3 years full-time arboriculture experience, OR
- A degree in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, or landscape architecture (can substitute for some experience)
- Cody had both coming into it!! Whoop!

The exam tests 10 knowledge domains:
1. Tree Biology
2. Tree Identification
3. Soil Science
4. Water Management
5. Tree Nutrition & Fertilization
6. Pruning
7. Diagnosis & Plant Disorders
8. Tree Risk Assessment
9. Installation & Establishment
10. Worker Safety

Exam consists of:
- 200 multiple-choice questions
- 4 hours
- Computer-based testing or depending on the testing center hand written! (Cody’s was hand written!)
- Passing score - 76% !!!

It’s been an honor to see Cody go through school and have this certification as a must-achieve goal by two months after his graduation. He had this certification in the forefront of his mind during college and to see all the hard work he’s put in to earn it just makes it that much more exciting for what the future holds.

My name is Cody Davis and I recently graduated with a degree in Horticulture and a minor in Ecology and Conservation Biology.

I own and operate Davis Land and Lawn which is a tree and land service. We are insured and bonded.

We do all things from technical removals, pruning, planting and assessments.

We also do some hardscapes, softscapes, land management, drainage solutions, as well as skid steer and excavator work.

Some towns we service include: Kerrville, Hunt, Bandera, Ingram, Helotes, Comfort, Boerne, Pipe Creek, Comfort and more. We will travel depending on the scope of work.

This last week we were able to celebrate with friends and family the great accomplishment of Cody receiving his Aggie ring!

For those who don’t know, the Aggie ring is a representation of a couple things. First and foremost, the Aggie Network- those who have paved the way before us, and those who will come after us.

The Aggie ring symbolizes accomplishment; and the school’s core values of excellence, integrity, leadership, loyalty, respect, and selfless service. These are values that we hold near and dear to our hearts as individuals AND as a company.

The ring is a globally recognized symbol of achievement that connects Aggies across generations.

This weekend we celebrated our very own Anna Davis graduating from Texas A&M University!! She is the co-owner of Davis Land & Lawn and handles all of the social media, books and much of the administrative work! Occasionally you’ll see her in a tree and/or on the ground. Grateful to have her by my side as my wife and best friend, but also as my business partner.

She has worked so hard for this and we are so excited for what the future holds!

The past couple weeks have looked a lot different from the usual summers.

But we know everything in our lives had prepared us for this.

A quick update from the past couple of weeks:
- Cody got up into some trees last week
- Recovery efforts with Hunt Volunteer fire department
- Debris removal with a man named Terry
- Found a “YOU ARE NOT ALONE” su***de prevention bracelet. Very impactful experience.
- God in the details.
- A new found love and energy for this powerful community
- Checked the damage out in Leander (north of Austin), helped where we could and met some good people.

If there’s been anything that we’ve learned throughout this whole process, is that our God is a God of miracles. Reach out if you need help on your property in the Hill Country. We are in it together. There is truly no place like the Texas Hill Country 💚

Now that Cody is back in Hunt, we just wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for those of you who extended your kind words, prayers, and networks with us. It is devastating that it took a historic flood to bring all of us together in this way, and in the same breath we know that whatever comes our way, we can pull together and overcome the hardships together.

We don’t like asking for money. But we’ve been asked by many people if they can donate to help cover gas, diesel, chains, chainsaws, bar oil, and other essential items.

So many have reached out wanting to give. And it is so generous. We can definitely use it as the funds were coming out from our own pockets. We will pour it back to this wounded community.

The donations we have received already have helped us buy more chains, fuel and sharpening files for the days ahead. We’re honored to be working with local officials to make this relief effort congruent, safe, and doable. Our business’ Venmo is posted on the last slide. 🫶🏼

Don’t feel pressured to donate if you’re unable. Feel pressure to pray, believe in God’s ability to work miracles, and share our message with friends and family that we are here to help!!! 🫶🏼 We love you guys, we’re blessed to be surrounded by earth angels.
