The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is excited to welcome the Florida Keys History & Discovery Center back to our Chamber community!

Located in Islamorada on the property of the Islander Resort, the Discovery Center brings the incredible history, culture and natural environment of the Florida Keys to life through engaging exhibits, aquariums, documentary films and educational programming.

From Henry Flagler’s Over-Sea Railway and the devastating Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 to the First People of the Keys, Spanish treasure fleets, maritime heritage and the stories that helped shape the Upper Keys, there is so much to explore and discover. Visitors can also experience the Center’s coral reef exhibit, featuring three aquariums and interactive educational displays highlighting our unique Florida Keys ecosystem.

More than a museum, the Discovery Center helps preserve the stories of our islands while ensuring that residents and visitors alike have the opportunity to understand the history that made the Florida Keys what they are today.

The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is pleased to welcome State Representative Jim Mooney as our October luncheon speaker.

A fifth-generation Floridian with deep roots in the Florida Keys, Representative Mooney began his political career serving on the Islamorada Village of Islands Council from 1998 to 2002, including as Mayor in 2000. He returned to the Council in 2014, later serving as Vice Mayor and once again as Mayor.

In 2020, Jim was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, where he has spent three terms representing the Florida Keys and working to secure significant appropriations and advance legislation benefiting both his district and the State of Florida. He currently serves on several legislative committees addressing issues ranging from state affairs and the budget to natural resources, disasters, property taxes, education, housing, agriculture, and tourism.

During our luncheon, Representative Mooney will discuss his legislative accomplishments, the issues currently impacting the Florida Keys, and what lies ahead for our region.

But we’ll also get to know the person behind the public office. As a fifth-generation Floridian with a lifetime of connections to the Keys, Jim will give us an inside look at his roots, his family’s history in the area, and the experiences that ultimately shaped his path into public service.

Today, our Executive Director, Nicole Navarro, traded her Chamber hat for her nonprofit founder hat and had the honor of speaking at the Florida Banking Forum luncheon in Coral Gables.

Nicole was invited by one of our newest Chamber members, New Edge Associates. The Florida Banking Forum regularly highlights nonprofit organizations throughout South Florida that are doing exceptional work in their communities, and today’s featured organization was Pawsitive Beginnings.

For Nicole, the two roles may look very different, but they are rooted in the same thing: service.

Pawsitive Beginnings is her passion — an organization built from her own life experiences and a belief that purpose can grow from the most unexpected places.

The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce is her profession — but also an opportunity to take that same commitment to service and use it to strengthen businesses, build relationships and help a community thrive.

We believe the best leaders don’t have to leave one part of themselves at the door to succeed in another. The experiences that shape us, the causes that matter to us and the communities we choose to serve all become part of how we lead.

Today, our Executive Director Nicole Navarro and Board President Ken Reda had the pleasure of attending the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce luncheon.

It’s always nice to step away from Ocean Reef for a bit and head down the road to support our friends and fellow Chamber professionals in Key Largo.

Today’s guest speaker was Bryan Griffin, President & CEO of VISIT FLORIDA, who shared a fascinating look at the work being done to promote Florida as a destination and the tremendous impact tourism has on our state’s economy.

Thank you to the Key Largo Chamber for the warm welcome and a great afternoon of connection, collaboration and learning. Supporting one another is what strong Chambers—and strong communities—are all about.

Congratulations to our 2026 Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce Scholarship recipients!

The Ocean Reef Chamber of Commerce was proud to award $1,000 scholarships to Ariana Gonzales, David De Paz, Emily Rosu, Kaelyn Buck, and Skylar Tudor during our annual Scholarship Check Presentation Ceremony at Carysfort Hall.

Unfortunately, David De Paz was out of the country and unable to attend, but his scholarship was proudly accepted on his behalf by his stepfather.

We extend our sincere congratulations to each of these outstanding students and wish them continued success as they pursue their educational goals.

A special thank you goes to everyone who participated in the 14th Annual Ocean Reef Chamber Golf Tournament this past May. Your support as sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and Chamber members made these scholarships possible and continues to invest in the future of our local students. We couldn’t do it without you!
