Sleeping dogs...

We have come a long way this past year. Starting with nothing more than an LLC screenshot and some light research, we have uncovered a level of corruption, indignity, and inhumanity we never would have expected from an organization that presents itself as a "beacon for hope and justice." It has been a wild and unexpected journey, to say the least.

This past month has shown us that our mission has been effective. We are by no means taking all the credit. The real workhorse here has definitely been the legal battles, which wreaked havoc on their organization, as well as the NJP with one of the founding members. We were able to shine a spotlight on these instances, which were stifled in the past because they didn't have a place to be heard. We are forever grateful to all those who came forward and trusted us to share their stories and information.

But alas, the end is here, and being stagnant isn't in our nature. We have made the decision to disband, but not decommission. The difference? We are breaking up our staff and allowing them to be relieved of any duties related to The Dirty Mug (TDM). We are not removing TDM from service. Our page will remain up until one of two things happens.

The first option would be the most honorable and build momentum toward reconciliation and accountability. That would require all three members listed on their LLC to post an apology to their entire audience and post it on their page and ours. After 72 hours, we would decommission and delete everything.

The second option (which, in our opinion, is the coward's way out and the most likely outcome) is to leave our page up for ten years. Assuming nothing else gets posted, we would decommission on 28SEP2036. If they start posting again, our clock resets, and we get back to work.

Those of you who have trusted us know we keep our word. We will assume our duties as the sleeping dog, an idiom meaning to avoid a situation that is currently calm, as doing so could provoke trouble or conflict. We may not be around, but rest assured we still have the watch.

On this day, 84 years ago, September 27, 1942, 22-year-old Signalman First Class Douglas Albert Munro led a fleet of ten landing craft to evacuate trapped Marines at Point Cruz, Guadalcanal.

Lieutenant Colonel Lewis "Chesty" Puller had landed 500 Marines from the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines behind enemy lines near the Matanikau River.

A heavily armed Japanese force encircled the battalion, cutting off their retreat and pounding the beachhead with intense mortar and machine gun fire.

With the Marines facing total annihilation, Munro volunteered to command the extraction craft despite not being originally assigned to the beachhead operation.

Munro positioned his Higgins boat directly between the evacuation site and the Japanese positions, using his own vessel as a physical shield.

He ordered his crew to fire their twin .30-caliber machine guns continuously into the ridge to draw enemy fire away from the landing craft.

During the chaotic retreat, a larger tank lighter packed with wounded Marines ran aground on a sandbar under heavy fire.

Munro maneuvered his craft between the sandbar and the enemy shore, placing himself in the direct line of target fire to shield the stranded crew while a towline was secured.

Japanese machine gun fire struck Munro in the base of the skull, mortally wounding him just as the grounded craft was pulled free.

His crewmate, Signalman First Class Raymond Evans, maintained continuous machine gun fire with one hand while guiding the vessel back toward safety.

Munro briefly regained consciousness on the water and asked his final words, "Did they get off?".

Evans confirmed that all surviving Marines were safely off the beach, and Munro died seconds later.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt presented the Medal of Honor posthumously to Munro's mother, Edith Munro, on May 24, 1943.

Following her son's death, 47-year-old Edith Munro enlisted in the Coast Guard Women's Reserve, known as the SPARS, where she served as a commissioned officer.

Douglas Albert Munro remains the only member of the United States Coast Guard in history to receive the Medal of Honor.

His crewmate Raymond Evans received the Navy Cross for his role in the battle, and the Coast Guard has since named multiple cutters in Munro's honor, including the Legend-class national security cutter USCGC Munro.

Declaration of death...

To all who shall see this presence, greetings. The Dirty Mug started with one mission: to destroy The Pettiest Officer Organization (TPOO). It may have seemed like we have been stagnant these past few months; the truth is, we were watching, collaborating, and making judgment calls on whether we should declare the inevitable death of TPOO.

In the past 4 weeks, several boxes were checked which we believe mark the end of this organization's era. We definitely expect some sort of post from them trying to show they still have a pulse and are still getting calls, information, and hot intel that will make everyone's head explode with pure shock and awe. But we are officially declaring the death of The Pettiest Officer Organization.

Unfortunately, victims of SA that reached out to TPOO will still be left out in the cold with unkept promises from a reserve BM3 who couldn't even get coxswain qualified but could somehow be your knight in shining armor to get you justice. The old saying stands on business: "If it's too good to be true, it probably is."

Running a page like ours takes a mental toll. Being in several different time zones, taking duty to answer messages, making posts, triage the information coming in, and check sources, all while remaining anonymous (even to our own families) is stressful, to say the least. It's a level of stress we hope no one else will have to endure. We pushed forward because we felt it was the right thing to do. While we made mistakes along the way, we quickly owned them and made the best correction possible. We also conducted business in ways some found inappropriate, unproductive, and contrary to the main mission goals. We have supplied answers for these instances in the past, and we are standing here today making this wonderful declaration of TPOO's end. Some may not have liked how we got here, but C's get degrees.

The people who have come forward and supported us from the beginning deserve a large amount of credit. Without YOU, we wouldn't be here right now or have made so much progress. When you took a chance on us and trusted us to tell your stories and truths, we wanted to do everything possible to make sure you were heard, that we were telling it right, and that you were getting your point across or the closure you needed. None of us take that responsibility lightly.

Once again, thank you to all who have reached out to us and provided us with information during this journey.

We will be providing a closing post in the coming days to mark how our page will be managed.

The desperate struggle for attention...

It's been pretty quiet lately regarding TPO until recently, when they decided to make a few posts in yet another distasteful way to gain attention and notoriety. Before this, TPO's last posts were regarding Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) for Surfmen, as well as wishing the U.S. Coast Guard a happy 236th birthday on August 4th. Then, there was nothing for weeks... For an organization that claims to be "wOrKiNg On MaNy CaSeS," they sure have been reporting nothing that we can't find ourselves.

Tragedy has struck our community with the sudden passing of LT Connor Overstreet. This story can be found throughout several reputable news sources. We shared a news agency post about the tragedy; a few hours later, TPO covered it. Now you can say that TPO was just doing their job as the so-called journalist they claim to be, but the next day, they posted about the USS Abraham Lincoln. It's a story that has garnered massive amounts of attention over the past month in the US Navy.

But why post about it now? Also, this has nothing to do with the USCG. These are two different organizations, with different missions, personnel structures, funding, etcetera. The answer is simple... It gets attention and keeps the dying page semi-alive. What's even more disturbing is posting this Navy story immediately (within about 24 hours) after posting about the passing of a slain active-duty member, drowning out the focus of the announcement in the first place. If TPO had "actual cases," they wouldn't wait to tell you about it. It is our opinion that they are out of cases, out of stories, and out of ideas.

TPO cares about the sailors that jump off the USS Abraham Lincoln the same way they care about the SA victims they lure in. They will use you for their personal gain and drop you like a bad habit when they are done with you. You don't even have to be in peril to have them ruin your day. The member who came to us recently requesting TPO to take their picture down is still being disrespected by non-action through Reddit. For those who may not know, TPO still has a Reddit page with this person's face on it as their logo. The originators face they are using is in tribute to su***de awareness. If people who are trying to make positive impacts on su***de awareness are deciding to leave and distance themselves from The Pettiest Officer (recently, we might add), then how much do they actually give a damn about anyone else?

In closing, if TPO can't even follow simple directions to remove someone else's intellectual property with more than enough ample time to do so, what makes you think they can listen to your cries for help? If TPO can't be creative enough to make some sort of creative logo replacement, what makes you think they can navigate the difficult territory of legal hurdles and justice? If TPO can't even properly represent fallen members respectfully, what makes you think they retain humanity? If TPO doesn't seem to care about any of these things listed above and in previous posts, what makes you think they actually care about you?
