MODERATE rip current risk and cold water temperatures that will lead to hypothermia south of Cape Hatteras to include Frisco, Hatteras Village and Ocracoke. Only experienced surf swimmers who know how to escape a rip current should enter the water wearing thermal protection. Never swim alone, always take flotation!
LOW rip current risk and cold water temperatures that will lead to hypothermia north of Cape Hatteras to include Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Pea Island, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon and Buxton. While the risk for rip currents is low, life-threatening rip currents may still be present. Remember LOW risk does not mean NO risk!
Strongest rip currents often occur a couple hours either side of low tide, which occurs around 5: 50 PM today.
Expect cloudy skies today with showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Temperatures in the upper 60 to low 70s. Southwest winds between 5 to 15 mph, becoming north to northwest at around 15 mph in the afternoon. Surf height 1 to 3 feet, building to 2 to 4 feet later in the day.
