🎉 Our annual Tie Dye event is back! The event was a burst of creativity, laughter, and color as members transformed plain tees into vibrant works of art. From bold spirals to playful splashes each shirt became a work of art.

🐍✨This past Friday, Oct. 9th, our members and staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King had a wildly exciting time with the The Traveling Snake Show!

Our members in Moses and Ainsworth Hall learned fascinating facts about different kinds of snakes — from their unique patterns to their important role in nature. The best part? Everyone got the chance to hold these amazing creatures and see them up close! *FYI, these are non-venomous snakes and very used to being held. ⭐🐍

It was an unforgettable mix of education, adventure, and smiles. 🐍💚

🌟 Get to Know Ilona Grawvunder - Honoring Service, Providing Compassionate Care🌟

Ilona has been with the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King’s Activities Team for 13 years and is a part of our excellent care team in Moses Hall.

Ilona says, “I love interacting with all of our members and getting to know their stories” and she appreciates how “all the staff work together to make and do what’s best for our members.” She adds, “our members are all very important to us, and they are our family.”

One of Ilona’s most memorable experiences came while working in Ainsworth Hall, when a previously nonverbal member was able to carry on a conversation with her for hours while they worked together during a session in a Namaste room where they listened to old songs.

Ilona also has a strong military connection: her son currently serves in the military, her brothers served multiple tours overseas in the Middle East, and both her father (Army) and father-in law served.

At the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, we are proud to continue the tradition of compassionate care of our members modeled by Activities Team members like Ilona.

🌞 We'd like to share our sincere appreciation for our volunteers who do so much to make our Home a connected community for our members, and the staff here in King! That includes the wonderful team from Advanced Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

This group assisted our team with multiple projects across camp to include (but not limited to):

• Working with the Waupaca Historical Society with deep cleaning the Commandant's House
• A deep cleaning the interior of our Chapel in the Park
• Helped our staff with exterior cleaning of first floor windows on multiple buildings across camp
• Post-construction cleaning of Ainsworth 4th floor in preparation for 2nd floor members to be moved into their new living space in November
• Outdoor Fall clean-up of our camp, to include our park as well as our memory care courtyard
• Spent time with our members during ‘OctoberFest’ we held at Ainsworth Hall and stayed to play table games with some of the members
• Sorting and cleaning an area in Stordock Hall which needed much attention.

“Our team commented on how gracious and giving their team was,” said Commandant Joni Steingraber. “It was a wonderful experience.”

🎉 Congratulations to our colleague Robn Fronczak, one of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs' Employees of the 3rd Quarter of 2026! 🎉

Robin was recognized for her outstanding service as the Lead Custodian at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.

As Susan Fay shared with our staff, “Robin exemplifies dedication and teamwork… (she) has taken on some additional duties…from training a new co-lead to training new housekeeping staff. She consistently goes above and beyond for both our members and staff, remains flexible and is personable, kind, and caring. (She is) always ready to help where she can, creating a positive environment for both staff and members”

Commandant Joni Steingraber concurs adding, “Robin truly has gone above and beyond in the Housekeeping Department covering both Moses and Ainsworth Halls all summer…and did it all with a smile. She exemplifies the kind of caring for our member's needs that I would love to see in every employee.”

Members of Ainsworth Hall celebrated National Dog Week by making homemade dog treats and then taking a trip to donate them to the Waupaca Humane- Humane Society of Waupaca County. The members received a tour of the Humane Society and got to meet some of the animals. It’s always a wonderful feeling and experience to give back to the community! Thank you!

👩🏻‍⚕️Get to know Deb Manske, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Honoring Service, Providing Compassionate Care👩🏻‍⚕️

For the past seven years, Deb Manske has been providing compassionate care to our members at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.

"The members are just like your family," Deb says. "I would take them home if I could." Deb also values the teamwork among her coworkers, adding, "Working as a team is what I appreciate most about King."

For those considering a career at King, she shares, "They treat you like one of their own and appreciate you."

🐕‍🦺 K-9 Luna Expert Canine Training held a second training event on King's campus on September 15th. This training is for area police departments that assists, trains, and recertifies police dogs and their handlers. This training once again used Olson Hall on campus as a recertification site. They worked with King's Security Officers as part of the permission agreement to use our campus as a recertification site.

Our members really enjoyed watching the police officers and their dogs go through training. We'd like to express our appreciation to these police officers and their dogs who visited us and help keep our local communities safe and sound. ⭐🐕
