Going back to my Blade Runner/Aliens/Terminator schtick for today. I want to repost about how tarantulas get their name.

The name tarantula comes from the city of Taranto, where a local wolf spider was called the tarantola.
Folks believed the tarantola’s bite caused a frenzy called tarantism — and the cure was to dance wildly until the “venom” left the body.
Over time, the word tarantula shifted from the Italian wolf spider to the big, fuzzy New World spiders we know today.
