Some fresh pine bark mulch for these very hot summer days! Pine bark is essential for retaining moisture for the shallow fibrous root system blueberries have along with adding organic material that will slowly break down and feed the plant. It also supports lowering acidity which is critical for healthy growth especially in our alkaline clay soil here in East TN! Mulch & More LLC in Harriman has some great pine bark, we will definitely be getting more, and it’s way more cost effective than by the bag at Lowe’s. Our blueberries have had great growth this year and looking forward to lots of berries next year!

Once this heat breaks it’s fall planting season and we have blueberries and blackberries ready to go in the ground for you! Post coming soon with more information how you can expand your planting with strong, locally grown and adapted berries the same we grow on our farm

🌾 We’ve been getting quite a few questions about glyphosate lately, so let’s talk about it!

Glyphosate is a widely used herbicide that’s used to control weeds in agriculture. Because it can be used around food crops, people understandably have questions about whether residues can make their way into the food we eat.

There’s a lot of ongoing research and discussion surrounding glyphosate and its potential health effects, and we’re not here to scare anyone or tell you what you should eat. We simply believe that knowing where your ingredients come from—and knowing what’s in them—is important.

And this is just ONE of the reasons we love sourcing our flour from Farmers Storehouse in Sparta, Tennessee. ❤️🌾

Farmers Storehouse performs in-house testing on the grain they receive before it ever goes through their milling process. That gives us another level of confidence in the ingredients we’re bringing into our kitchen and ultimately putting into your hands.

For us, quality isn’t just about making delicious sourdough. It’s about being intentional about our ingredients, supporting farmers, knowing our supply chain, and continually asking, “How can we do this better?”

We’re pretty passionate about bread around here. 😂 But we’re even more passionate about knowing what goes into the food we feed our families and yours. And that means striving to provide the highest-quality ingredients and products we can for our community. 💚

Another 340 pounds of flour picked up from our friends at Farmers' Storehouse! 🌾🤎

This time, I brought home our usual artisan bread and all-purpose flours, plus some durum flour and wheat bran to start tinkering with in the test kitchen. 👀

Durum is a beautiful, golden-hued wheat with a naturally rich, slightly nutty flavor and a higher protein content that gives dough some really interesting strength and texture. It’s also packed with carotenoids and has a great nutritional profile.

Wheat bran is the nutrient-rich outer layer of the wheat kernel, naturally high in fiber, minerals, antioxidants and B vitamins. It adds a wonderfully hearty flavor and texture — and I have a few ideas for how we can put it to work. 🌾

Stay tuned. There may be some new loaves coming your way!🥖
