Ever notice a printed piece that looks slightly blotchy in some spots, even though nothing seems "wrong" with it? đź‘€

That's called mottling — uneven color caused by how the paper absorbs ink, sometimes combined with the paper's own texture or the run itself.

There's also scumming: ink shows up where the plate was supposed to stay clean, leaving faint marks in areas that should be blank.

Neither one means bad printing. It usually just means the wrong combination of paper, ink, or settings for that particular job — which is exactly the kind of thing we catch before your print run does.

One of the most famous books ever printed—the First Folio, the first collected edition of William Shakespeare's plays—took nearly two years to produce.
