⚡ U.S. Energy in 2050: What the EIA Expects ⚡

The U.S. Energy Information Administration just dropped its Annual Energy Outlook 2026. Here's the big picture 👇

🖥️ AI and data centers are powering a comeback in electricity demand
After 15 years of flat demand, U.S. power use has grown 2.1% a year for the past five years. Expect it to keep climbing 0.9%–1.6% annually through 2050, with data centers leading the charge.

🚗 We'll travel more but use less fuel
Transportation energy use is projected to fall from 27 quads today to 21–25 quads by 2050. Why? More efficient vehicles and a growing number of zero-emission powertrains.

🛢️ Oil production levels off
U.S. crude output is expected to settle at 12.4–12.7 million barrels a day by 2050, down from 13.6 million today. Prices should stay under $70 a barrel through 2030, then rise above $75 in the late 2030s.

⚛️ Nuclear holds steady (with one big exception)
Most scenarios show flat nuclear capacity. The exception: if oil and gas supply is low, higher natural gas prices could make new nuclear plants worth building in the 2040s.

The bottom line: Electricity demand is rising, fuel use is falling, and the energy mix is shifting.
