"Human-centered design requires challenging everything we think we know about what the world needs. It challenges us to constantly learn and to be thoughtful. It takes a lot of humility to realize we might not always have the answers."

Keeping your end user in mind through all stages of the product life cycle will help you deliver a resource people will actually want. Follow these tips for a more user-centric design process.

"With controlling colleagues, we might focus on maintaining their sense of autonomy and purpose. People-pleasing team members may need reassurance that speaking up won't jeopardize relationships. Regardless of specifics, leading with empathy fosters safety and collaboration." https://buff.ly/488Q8L9

Often without our conscious awareness, trauma manifests in our bodies. To become truly conscious leaders, we must bring compassion and curiosity to our own wounding as well as that of others.

The problem with default communication norms is sometimes it only works well for one person. Without an explicit agreement or discussion about how we want to communicate together, undesirable patterns of behavior can persist over time, even when they don’t work well for anyone on the team. Instead of suffering the consequences of the default, teams can set their own intentional communication norms and gain agreement for how to work together. Use these four steps to surface hidden assumptions and build intention:

Lack of clarity on agreements and expectations for team communication dynamics is one of the most common causes of stress in working relationships. When we don't set social norms and team agreements with intention, they get set for us to a default – usually from the preferences or habits of one

"Innovation burnout is when employees become overloaded by new initiatives. When this happens, the thrill of learning something new is replaced by a feeling of yet another thing to add to the list."

Too many new initiatives can overwhelm workers. As an editor who helps lead digital and cultural change at The New York Times, here’s how I work to avoid that.

"Success in business strategy includes two separate activities — designing strategy and executing it. Strategy design involves answering the question: Is our strategy suitable for our organization’s circumstances? Strategy ex*****on is about answering the question: How well have we executed our intentions?"

When executing strategy, companies typically fall into one or more of three traps: 1) They let too many people weigh in; 2)They plan a lot of activity but do not specify concrete actions; and 3) They tend not to build in accountability into ex*****on. The result is that. lot a good strategies never....

Getting super clear about whose experience is at stake and what the hallmarks of a great experience for that person are, sets the stage for great design, better project leadership, and more effective decisions. https://buff.ly/3n6dmvd

Personas and user scenarios play a big role in Design for Business Value. When we first introduce the methodology, one common question we hear is, “My project doesn’t have any users, so will this still work for us?” We were puzzled as to what type of project won’t have some impact on users, ...

"In research settings, we are often called upon to collaborate with others. When teams collaborate, the result can be greater than the sum of its parts, producing outcomes that no one team could complete alone. In this area, the research environment can turn to business strategists and organisational psychologists for generally agreed principles for cross-team collaboration that are required for success."

Research teams that might not usually work together are increasingly required to collaborate. Here, Rob Kadel offers five principles that underpin effective project delivery

"As AI continues to advance, we can expect its profound impact on design thinking to continue. We might even reach a point where designers can create generative user interface concepts (i.e., design approaches using AI to automatically generate or evolve user interface elements) with specific user inputs and preferences. This leaves room for designers to just concentrate on strategic and creative aspects."

Design thinking is a foundational framework for creating great, transformational products. Our expert explores how we can expect increasingly sophisticated AI tools to impact it.
