A bit of Pacific NW geologic news. Most of the mineral wealth of Oregon and Washington is a direct result of same geologic forces which made all the Cascade arc volcanoes (plate subduction).
Random Trivia: Only one single Cascade volcano has ever had a mining operation on the summit. Between 1929 and 1959 there were operations mining sulfur on the peak of Mount Adams, 35 miles East of St. Helens.
