⛈📰TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN 📰⛈
Those blue skies are now shades of gray, and our drought-ridden area is getting some well-needed rain, thanks to Tropical Storm Edouard. We hope you're already at home or cautiously driving there. While we might not get as much rain as our neighbors just east of us, the Piney Woods region is still due to receive some rainfall.

Where there's rain, there's flash flooding, so be careful. Flooded roads are hard to see at night - even for us! Please stay home if you can. But if you need us, Klein Fire Department will always be there to answer the call.

⛈️ EYE ON THE GULF⛈️

Today is what we call a “blue sky” day—when all is fairly calm and not much is going on. It’s treated as a prep day for the times when the skies become overcast, the heat or rain or floods or fires overwhelm you, and the time to prep dwindles down to “I wish I would have…”

There’s a system in the north central Gulf to keep your eye out for and some rain that will probably develop by Tuesday, with or without its help.

So use the remainder of this beautiful blue sky day to get ready for whatever the week may bring.

Olde Oaks

Last night’s storm caused a huge commotion in our district. We answered calls for gas leaks, fire alarms, downed objects, a motor vehicle caught in a flash flood, several electrical hazards, and 2 simultaneous house fires, likely caused by lightning strikes.

We are fortunate to be part of a department and Emergency Services District that has 8 fully staffed stations with multiple apparatus and mutual aid agreements with surrounding fire departments. Klein residents can rest assured that their fire department will always be able to answer the call.

🔥FIRE FRONT: KLEIN – Backburning🔥

Backburning. Let’s get into it!
Fighting fire with fire isn’t just a saying. It’s real – and it’s one of the most effective tools Wildland crews have when conditions line up.

A backburn is a controlled fire intentionally set near a control line or ahead of the main wildfire. The goal is simple: remove the fuel before the wildfire reaches it. By burning off brush, grass, and vegetation under controlled conditions, crews create a blackened buffer the wildfire can’t cross. It slows the fire, redirects it, and gives responders a safer, stronger position to work from.

Backburning is just one part of a larger, coordinated attack. When crews combine ground operations cutting control lines, backburning, and aerial firefighting drops, all 3 tactics work together to slow (and ultimately stop) a wildfire’s progression. It’s strategy, timing, and teamwork across every level of the incident.

As of 6:00 p.m. this evening, the Texas A&M Forest Service reports the Ross Fire at 26% containment, with personnel from across Texas working together to tame this fire spanning Palo Pinto and Jack Counties.

Continue to send those good thoughts to the crews protecting life, property, and our state.

🚨⛈️BAD WEATHER MULTIPLE INCIDENT AWARENESS⛈️🚨

Friday, August 28, 2026
Rush Hour
Klein, TX

This evening’s storm is causing multiple hazards in our area, folks. Flash flooding interfering with vehicles not becoming boats…lightning strikes lighting up roofs…power lines down and transformers popping.

Our crews and regional partners are responding to multiple incidents right now. If you’re in a place where you can stay for awhile, please pause and enjoy wherever that may be. You don’t need to be out on the roads. And if you got stuck on the road trying to get home or run that Friday errand, go slow and be cautious if you can’t pull over and wait it out.

Keep your flashlights handy and your patience in check. We’ll get through this together.

🔥 FIRE FRONT: KLEIN – Overhead on the Ross Fire 🔥

As the Ross Fire continues its push across Palo Pinto County, our Fire Chief remains deployed with Strike Team 200 in an overhead position – the leadership roles that help run the incident behind the scenes. Overhead personnel help shape strategy, track fire behavior, coordinate resources, safety, and communication across the entire fire. They’re the ones shaping the plan that keeps the crews on the line supported and protected.

As of 7:15 p.m. today, the Ross Fire has grown to 85,003 acres and reached 26% containment. Crews from across Texas are working through shifting conditions, wild terrain, and long operational periods to hold the line and strengthen containment.

Tonight’s full moon plus the lunar eclipse, is sure to cast an eerie glow over the fire ground. Even under the light of a blood moon, the work continues.

Keep sending those good thoughts for all responders working through the night to protect lives, property, and our great state of Texas.

🔥 FIRE FRONT: KLEIN— Ross Fire🔥

As dawn breaks over Texas, Klein Fire Department E303 heads out with Strike Team 197 to answer the call. Operating as part of a coordinated statewide mutual aid deployment, their mission is critical.

The Ross Fire has tested firefighters to the limit. Fueled by bone-dry brush, extreme heat, and unpredictable wind shifts, this fire rapidly exploded a couple days ago past 80,000 acres. As of 0600, containment stands at about 12%.

While the scale of this monster is daunting, the resolve of our crews is unmatched! Our firefighters are trained, ready, and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow firefighters from across the Lone Star State.

Stay safe out there!
