Advanced Mobile Veterinary Surgery provides select veterinary clinics the ability to offer advanced surgical procedures to their clients without having to refer their patients to another facility. After receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine (UTCVM) in May 2000, he completed a one-year rotating internship at The Animal Medi
cal Center in New York, NY. After practicing for 2 years in private practice, Dr. Hicks returned to the UT College of Veterinary Medicine and completed a combined Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Comparative and Experimental Medicine (Biomechanics) and a 3-year residency training program in small animal surgery. During this time at UT is when Dr. Hicks met and fell in-love with his future wife, Dr. Deborah Spector Hicks. They now have 9 year old daughter and a 6.5 year old son, and enjoy every aspect of outdoor recreation with their children and 2 dogs. Following completion of his training Dr. Hicks sought out to help surrounding private practitioners with cases that may need surgical care that falls outside of their individual surgical skill sets. In August 2009, Dr. Hicks established Advanced Mobile Veterinary Surgery, Inc (AMVS, Inc.) and has thoroughly enjoyed the working relationships created amongst many private practitioners in the greater Knoxville area. is to allow clients to experience familiar, comfortable care of their pets in the same nurturing environment they have become to trust. Dr. Hicks is called in to evaluate patients, discuss proposed procedures and provide estimated costs to the clients during an initial consultation. The overall estimate discussed with the client typically includes a comprehensive physical examination, pre-operative blood work, pre-operative survey radiographs, pre-anesthetic medications, induction and maintenance anesthesia with monitoring, intraoperative IV antibiotics, the surgical procedure with +/- implants, post-operative survey radiographs, post-operative bandaging, post-operative analgesics, an e-collar, and one night of hospitalization. Following any surgical consultation or procedure, Dr. Hicks provides the client with detailed written discharge instructions for the post-operative period and always make himself available for questions or concerns via a simple telephone call. E-mail is also an option for clients that are more comfortable with electronic media. Dr. Hicks maintains complete documentation of care provided within the patient’s medical record and provides a detailed operative report of the procedure performed. The ultimate goal of AMVS, Inc. is to maintain continuity of patient care within the patient’s facility, which strives to provide the very best customer service for our veterinary clients.
