As a leader and manager, how can you best position yourself and your team for greater success now and moving forward?

Major changes continue to swirl and mount all around us, but which ones are permanent? Which ones can we take the time to evolve with, and which ones do we need to better understand and get ahead of in order to differentiate ourselves and stay on top?

We know that the “next normal” settling in will never be as it was, and neither will the type of leadership and management needed to move our teams and organizations forward.

Next level leadership and management is about having a higher level of understanding of how business and society has changed and having a clearer and more compelling vision for the future. There’s no question that strategic planning is essential for firm success. Yet despite this, the vast majority of strategic plans fail or fail to be fully or successfully implemented.

Why is this the case and, more importantly, what can we do to ensure that our team and firm are on the winning side?

From my perspective as both a strategic planning participant at manager, principal, and firm owner levels and now as a strategic planning facilitator and ex*****on consultant, here are the top 10 reasons most strategic plans either languish or fail:

1- No real desire for change
2- Fear of transparency
3- People ranked third
4- No urgency for new action
5- Too busy for different
6- Practitioners first
7- Silos
8- Non-attractive or not inspiring enough mission, vision, and values
9- Not putting in the work
10- Lack of communication
