A system can have the right equipment rating and still miss the mark in the field.

Here’s the rant: stop treating infiltration like a guess when it can be measured.

A Manual J is only as good as the inputs behind it. A blower-door test gives us real leakage data so we can better understand the enclosure, improve the infiltration input, and make more defensible load and equipment decisions.

But the blower-door number is not the finish line. The value comes from using it:

• What is that leakage doing to comfort?
• What is it doing to energy use and indoor air quality?
• Where can the enclosure be improved?
• What will the load look like after the work?

Measure what matters. Model what exists. Design for what the home is becoming.

Unusually high room loads can point toward excessive solar gain, air leakage, weak insulation, duct-related problems, or other building conditions contributing to comfort complaints.

When that information is interpreted through a building-science lens, the calculation becomes a starting point for a more complete home-performance plan—not just an equipment-sizing requirement.
