Why You Might Still See Mosquitoes After a Professional Treatment
Even after getting your yard professionally sprayed, mosquitoes can still be a problem—especially around La Crosse. Here’s why:
🦟 Mosquitoes Reproduce Fast
In warm weather, mosquitoes can go from egg to adult in just 7–10 days. Sprays kill adult mosquitoes at the time of application, but new ones can hatch quickly—especially after rain creates fresh breeding spots.
💧 Hidden Breeding Grounds
All it takes is a small amount of standing water for mosquitoes to multiply. Places like clogged gutters, plant trays, buckets, or tarps can go unnoticed, even after treatment—and neighboring yards can contribute too.
🧬 Pesticide Resistance
Some mosquitoes are developing resistance to common insecticides like DEET. That’s why it’s important to combine treatments with other preventive efforts.
🌿 Limited Reach of Sprays
Mosquitoes hiding under thick bushes, leaves, or inside structures might not be affected by the spray, so they can stick around even after a visit.
🌧️ Weather Conditions
Heavy rain can wash away treatments sooner than expected, reducing their effectiveness and sometimes requiring an earlier reapplication.
🧲 Some People Are Just More Attractive to Mosquitoes
Your body chemistry, the amount of CO₂ you exhale, and even skin bacteria can make you more likely to get bitten—even in treated areas.

Tips to Help Prevent Mosquitoes Between Visits:
✔️ Dump out any standing water weekly (even bottle caps and flower pot trays).
✔️ Keep gutters clean and flowing.
✔️ Use outdoor fans—mosquitoes are weak fliers!
✔️ Trim back overgrown vegetation to reduce hiding spots.
✔️ Use repellents if you're spending long periods outdoors.
