Dear Loyal Customers,

In light of economic challenges, Hanson Scrap Metal Service is adapting to ensure continued sustainability. Starting in 2024, we will implement a nominal charge of $20 per stop and $20 per appliance, including those containing Freon. Inquire about other items and our bulk rate. We understand this is a departure from our previous free model, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

While change is never easy, this adjustment enables us to maintain the quality of our service and uphold our commitment to environmental responsibility. We deeply appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate these evolving times together.

Thank you for being part of the Hanson Scrap Metal Service family.

Warm regards
Brian Hanson
Owner of Hanson Scrap Metal Service LLC.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who participated in our event Sparta Scrap It Day!
Your kindness, generosity, and patience were amazing! I loved the opportunity to help each and everyone of you who dropped off your recyclables! I also appreciate Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce for the use of their property! It truly warms my heart to be able to raise money to help Sparta Area Cancer Support and help those locally in their time of need! With all of these gratuities said, I am truly sickened! I am disappointed! And I am disgusted beyond belief! For those who have some misguided perception that because we were able to collect 13 tons of recyclables that we can eat the cost when they show up after the event and dump anything they want!!! Items that we DO NOT deem acceptable! Items like paint cans full of paint! Kid’s plastic toys! Clothing, couches, furniture, and the list goes on and on! They even threw televisions in the dumpster! Instead of just paying the $20 like everyone else! I hate to break the news to the misinformed. But we pay to get rid of televisions! There’s no money in recycling televisions! In fact we only do it as a kindness in hopes of gaining a loyal customer!
We are a small business. A small business that works very hard to make a living! And although we have a very physical job, the idea of helping people is the reason we go to work everyday! And it’s knowing that we have the ability to make a difference in someone’s life is why we do these events! I am being very transparent when I say that our average donation to the SACS program is only $500-$700 per event. That’s not much money! Especially when you consider that we get approximately $100 per ton! Folks the reason why I am so upset is because of someone’s blatant selfish behavior! What should have been a check being paid for 11,740 lbs of metal turned into a $54 check! All because of someone’s dumping unacceptable items after the event! This truly makes me sick! One thing about me and my company…I don’t quit! And I will find a way to donate our usual $500! That’s a promise! And before doing another event in the spring, we need to find real solutions so this never happens again! Thank you again everyone who participated! My name is Brian Hanson and I look forward to seeing you again next year!

For those of you that think that my job is easy. I have been doing pick ups for a company for a few years now. This is probably the 3rd maintenance guy I’ve dealt with. I have never sent them a bill for Freon ever! Before this particular incident with this person I would take everything! On Friday I went to the job site and the maintenance person and a couple of people I have never seen before had everything in a pile. There were a couple of water heaters, a washing machine, and several miscellaneous items. Including a bucket with about 40lbs of scrap copper. As I grabbed the first water heater and loaded it, one of the guys I had never seen before grabbed the bucket of copper and took it away. I asked what is up with that? And the 3 laughed and said he was taking it because he is broke and needs the money. In my mind I am thinking WTF? I keep loading until the last 2 things sitting there was a couple of office chairs. They were mostly plastic and instead of taking them without question, I asked if there was a dumpster he could dispose of them in. I told him that taking the copper pi**ed me off. And I refuse to go above and beyond, taking stuff that I don’t normally handle because of it. And I proceeded to hop in the truck to leave. All the while this maintenance guy’s demeanor changed. He was angry and started getting loud saying that he was helping me and that I should appreciate what he ā€œgaveā€ me. He said he could find someone else to pick up! My response was ā€go aheadā€! And I drove away. I thought that was the end of it. I could see them laughing amongst themselves as I drove away. A few minutes later his text messaging started!
I ASK YOU. IS THIS ACCEPTABLE?? SHOULD I REPORT THIS TO HIS BOSS???
