Playing outside can be one of the most underrated and powerful tools for your child's development. It might just look like fun and games, but outdoor play provides crucial input to your child's sensory sensory system - especially something called proprioception.
Proprioception is your body's ability to sense where it is in space. It's what helps your child know how hard to hug someone, how fast to run, or how to walk without looking at their feet. This sense comes from input to the joints and muscles - think like pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing or even crashing into a soft surface.
Without enough of this input, kids may seem uncoordinated, clumsy or even hyperactive - not because they're misbehaving, but because their body is craving more feedback to feel "right."
