Most of us wouldn’t get that chance in our lifetimes, but today we all have that chance.

I was thinking about what our role in this whole Covid emergency is. We are the gatekeepers. We, as OB/GYN’s have the tightest of bonds with our patients. We know their families, their friends, their fears, their aspirations. We have the best chance to educate our patients to help them decrease the chances of spreading this to their families, to encourage them to take the quarantine and shelter in recommendations to heart, and to tell them how to educate their friends correctly.

We have a chance to inspire them to be empathetic and thoughtful and to see what changes they can make for the future of our world. We have a responsibility to keep as many people out of the hospitals as we can by educating them to do the right thing and prevent the spread. You see, when you stay home, you may save someone’s life. You slow the rate of infection, and you buy us time.

We need this time to learn about this virus, to allow scientists to come up with better tests, doctors to come up with treatment protocols, and manufacturers to supply us with protective gear and the machines that we need to survive this pandemic. When you stay home, you protect healthcare workers from more exposure to the virus so that we can go to work and take care of you when you need us. Please. Help us help you.

Share this message with 5 people that may not be taking this situation as seriously as they should and, I promise, you will likely save someone’s life.

And one more thing, if you go in for a Covid-19 test, please assume you are positive and go straight home. Do not stop at the market to get food.
