Kids clothing can be hard to part with and maintain. There is usually a lot of it, they grow so fast, and there are memories attached to certain pieces. I like to include my daughter in the sorting process when we go through her clothing. It helps her build decluttering muscles for her future, allows her to have a say in her wardrobe, and can be a great bonding activity! The method we use in the video can be used on everyone’s clothing. I didn’t edit the videos, so you could see them in real time.

Let’s talk about identity and fantasy clutter. This refers to accumulating items based on an idealized version of yourself, past self, or a future you aspire to be, rather than your current reality, leading to a home filled with unused and unloved possessions. I identify as a crafter, painter, reader, and nature lover. I have accumulated items to fullfill these parts of me, but it is easy to go too far. Then I have so much of something, it can be overwhelming to do the actual activities I love. And in this season of life, the time to do them is precious. Letting go of these items can be difficult. The money spent, the time I thought I would have, the gifts I was given, and the guilt I have attached. Give yourself some grace, learn from your mistakes, and level up to the life you want to live right now!

Just like seasons change, so should your home. Emb has been wanting to paint her room and change her style, so we decided to switch the craft/playroom and her bedroom. We knew it was going to be a huge project, so we tackled it in smaller bites. We started by taking down her bed to create space and began moving my crafting items out of the closet and into her old room. Next we only chose items from her room that she absolutely loved or needed to go back into the new closet/room space. We swapped her dresser and toys and repeated the process. When we got tired of making decisions, we stopped or took a break as to not make the process unfavorable. We lived in the messy middle for about two days, but the results were well worth it. Here are a few pics to show our progress.

A "doom area" is a designated container, like a box, basket, drawer, or closet used to store frequently misplaced or lost items, acting as a temporary catch-all to minimize clutter and chaos. Mostly these areas are used to delay decisions. I had an extra hour to tackle something that has been bothering me, so I decided the doom closet/pantry was my target. I always look for trash and easy stuff then move to anything that doesn’t belong and finish with what to keep or donate. I made a snack area out of dollar store stackable bins for easy access and tidied the shelves.

Let’s get started with food cabinets. In this busy season of life I use a delivery meal kit to help with quick meal planning, prep, and to keep waste and costs down, but managing food cabinets can still be a challenge. I keep cereal at kid height, but unhealthy snacks up top. I do not buy in bulk, as we don’t have the storage space or eat items fast enough before they expire. Risers, decanting containers, and labels facing out can help keep them organized.
