A reflection.

As we come to the close of another decade I pause to reflect on the contribution of millions of volunteers around the globe in 2019. This season is tinged with sadness with the loss of volunteer lives on active duty.

I hope that the narrative in 2020 will be about taking volunteering more seriously in our society at a Government, organisation, and community level. As Volunteering Australia recently stated:

"This is a timely reminder that though volunteers give their time willingly, their contribution is not free and they deserve to be supported with appropriate frameworks to protect them and ensure that the volunteer workforce is sustainable into the future."

Society: Stop saying “Just a volunteer”. Stop taking Volunteer effort for granted. Stop under resourcing volunteering effort. Support the National Standards. Support effective Volunteer Management. Support the peak bodies and for goodness sake please support our millions of volunteers. They deserve nothing less!

Thousands upon thousands of volunteers in many organisations will be volunteering over the holiday season. I salute you! Be safe and thank you from the bottom of my heart! - DJ
