The most powerful leaders aren’t just strategic; they’re storytellers.
A well-cast vision transforms direction into motivation. It helps your team see themselves in the future you’re building. Ask yourself:

🌟 Can your team describe the vision without reading it off the website?
🌟 Does it connect to something that matters to them?
🌟 Are you reinforcing it daily not just at annual meetings?

At Geaux Consulting Group, we’ve seen that leaders who communicate from purpose, not pressure, create alignment naturally. When vision becomes shared language, momentum follows.

Let’s make this the year your team sees what’s possible together.

Q1 is a wrap and now it’s time to refocus.

Momentum fades not because goals are wrong, but because energy is misplaced. McKinsey & Company research shows that healthy drivers, such as belonging, psychological safety, commitment, and purpose, explain up to 76% of the difference between low- and high- performing teams in three key areas: efficiency, results, and innovation (McKinsey, 2024). The solution isn’t more effort…it’s better alignment.

I call this the Q2 Reset; a springtime pause to assess, refine, and reignite. This season, pause and ask:
✨ What priorities still align with our long-term vision?
✨ Where have we drifted?
✨ How can we simplify for greater impact?

Clarity isn’t found in doing more. It’s found in focusing on what matters most. Let’s make Q2 your most intentional quarter yet.

SMPS Chapter Leadership Symposium 2026 is in the books and my last as a member of the Society board. So grateful to spend time with the 4Ps, grow on my journey, and be in community with strong leaders coming into their chapter’s presidency next year. I’m looking forward to seeing what the National Treasures will do to shake things up and lead with confidence.

I’m in Washington, DC with the SMPS Board for our quarterly board meeting and to spend time with the chapter president-elects for the Chapter Leadership Symposium. As I finish my last year on the Society board, I’m reminded how energizing it is to meet with chapter members and the stellar HQ staff team. I’m also reminded that DC is a vibrant town to be in and was glad I had a few hours to take in the sights and check one more Smithsonian museum off my list to visit.

Consultants bring clarity. Coaches build capability.

The best leaders know they need both.

According to Forbes, organizations that employ coaches see a 63% increase in revenue and growth spend. They also see an average of 7x ROI on that investment in a coach. At Geaux Consulting Group, we call that strategy with staying power.

Consulting: Offers expertise, frameworks, and external insight.
Coaching: Builds awareness, accountability, and long-term growth.

The consultant helps you design the map. The coach helps you navigate the road.

You don’t need to choose one over the other. Just focus on the right balance for your organization and team.

This week has been filled with learning and growth at SMPS Pacific Regional Conference in Seattle. So grateful to be surrounded by business development and marketing professionals who know their stuff and are willing to impart it through the many sessions at the conference. It was great to spend time with my fellow SMPS Society board members Benjamin Sawa and Andrea Story, FSMPS, CPSM as well as HQ superstars Marci D. Thompson , Nandi Rice, MA and Sara Wingerath-Schlanger. Also had the pleasure of meeting with SMPS member #1 Andy Zinsmeyer and hanging out with SMPS Los Angeles friends. If that wasn’t enough, I got to hear Saundra P. and Jesse Urquidi give a standout presentation on business development.

On a personal note, I was able to connect with one of my dearest friends from college so the trip was just a blast!

Whew! A lot happened.

Change can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be.

When people resist, it’s often because they don’t feel ready or supported. The key? Lead with purpose, build trust, and show progress along the way. That’s how you shift mindsets and create lasting impact.

Let’s stop fearing change and start guiding it.

How do you want to embrace change in 2026? What’s helped YOU handle change better this past year?

I feel honored to share some of the breakthroughs I’ve witnessed recently with clients who are redefining success on their own terms.

🔹 A business owner who’s not content with scaling revenue alone. He’s intentionally building people, giving them a chance to grow and someday lead their own ventures.
🔹 A leader who connected his StrengthsFinder themes to communication. He’s creating more clarity, trust, and alignment within his team.
🔹 A client who’s using goal-setting not just as a to-do list, but as a lens to see what’s possible for her career so she can move forward with purpose instead of repeating the past.
🔹 A solopreneur finding the precise words that communicate his value and, in doing so, attracting higher-impact clients.
🔹 Several nonprofits investing in strategic roadmaps that center constituents, support volunteers, and build accountability into their leadership.

These stories echo ideas I’ve explored in previous articles on how strategic planning is a lever for resilience, and how volunteering amplifies both brand and mission.

When you align your goals, communication, and strategy, you’re not just running a business; you’re building a legacy. It is amazing to see the transformation each client is uniquely driving under their own steam.

What’s one step you can take today to turn your vision into action?

Planning is everything. When you run a business without a plan, you bypass opportunities for growth, clarity, and long-term security.

Here’s what the data shows:
• Businesses with written business plans grow about 30% faster than those without.
• Approximately 50% of businesses with plans see growth versus only about 27% who see growth without one.
• A business and succession plan isn’t just for large firms. Over two-thirds of small business owners in the U.S. expect to retire in the next two years, but many haven’t documented what happens next with their business or leadership.

Why does this matter? A sharp business plan helps marketing professionals work smarter (not harder) through sharper targeting, better forecasts, and consistent brand messaging. A plan supports sales and revenue growth by aligning all parts of the business. It prepares next gen leaders and ensures knowledge isn’t lost. Finally, proper planning promotes firm longevity, decreases operational disruption, and gives voice to firm legacy.

Do you have a business plan?
