What if technology could actually make business more human, not less?

I had such an interesting conversation with Scott Goldman, founder of O.J., or Originations Juice, about technology, commercial lending, relationships, and where people still create the greatest value.

One of my favorite analogies from Scott was that technology can give a dealmaker an “Iron Man suit.”

It doesn’t have to replace the person.

It can remove the grunt work so that person has more time to build relationships, use judgment, solve problems, and help customers make better decisions.

And that applies far beyond lending.

A little more space can change how we work, create, and connect with the people we love. 💛

For Erin Callahan, co-founder of Elbow Room, it started during COVID with a house full of kids, art supplies everywhere, and a need for her own art studio.

More than 100 spaces later, that simple idea has helped people create businesses, pursue their passions, and bring family closer while keeping space of their own.

🎯 Finish Q4 with Focus, Not Chaos!

We just wrapped up another round of 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗕 90-Day Planning workshops, and here's something every business owner needs to remember:

More goals don't necessarily mean better results.

Sometimes they just create more chaos!

When you're trying to accomplish everything at once, it's easy to lose sight of what matters most.

That's why we encourage business owners to focus on:

✅ 3–4 critical business goals
✅ 1 meaningful personal goal
✅ A clear action plan
✅ Consistent follow-through

And yes, that personal goal matters!

Your business should support the life you want to live—not consume it.

The goal isn't to do everything.

It's to accomplish the things that will make the greatest difference.

Big goals become more achievable when you know where to start. 💛

At our GrowthCLUB workshops in Corpus Christi and San Antonio, we worked on mindset, celebrated achievements, and built focused plans for Q4.

Our Domino Effect activity helped connect the bigger goal to the first action—bringing clarity to priorities, potential obstacles, and the steps that could create momentum. Participants also helped one another see possibilities they might have missed on their own.

That thinking carried into their 90-day plans, giving their goals a clear path forward.

Thank you to everyone who made time to work ON their business. I’m looking forward to seeing those first moves turn into progress!

Two ears. One mouth. Use proportionately.

Doug Miller shared that philosophy during our conversation on The Dona KAPP Show, and it says a lot about the way he approaches leadership.

Doug went from the fast-paced world of energy trading to becoming an entrepreneur in an industry he knew very little about. Then, just to make the transition interesting, the business relaunched during the first week of COVID.

But the real story for me was mentorship.

Doug has spent decades learning from mentors, investing in younger leaders, and developing relationships with other business owners where everyone has an opportunity to learn from each other.

Some of the people who once mentored him are now peers. Sometimes the roles have even reversed.

That’s the ripple.

Someone shares a lesson with you.
You carry it forward.
Eventually, you share it with someone else.

Our very own Dona Kappmeyer recently sat down with Marsha Hendler, Founder and CEO of TerraFina Energy, for a powerful conversation about ownership, resilience, leadership, and what it takes to step into an industry where you may not look like the traditional person in the room.

Marsha entered oil and gas without the typical petroleum engineering or geology background. She learned through mistakes, took risks, built relationships, and ultimately became an owner and operator.

One of the strongest moments in the conversation came when Marsha asked:

“What would make you ready?”

It is a question every business owner and leader should think about.

Sometimes we spend so much time waiting until we have every qualification, every answer, and every bit of confidence that we miss the opportunity to move forward.

Marsha’s story is also a reminder that getting a seat at the table is only part of the journey. Ownership brings responsibility, decision-making, and the opportunity to create a path for others to follow.
