Powder Coating
Powder coating is our specialty at IronShield. It is a form of dry coating that is applied electrostatically and then cured in an oven under high heats to turn the dry powder into an opaque, durable “skin.” Powder coating is ideal of metal items, but can also be used on other materials that can conduct a charge and also endure the heat of our oven. Powder coating is very popular for use on items as large as automobiles, motorcycles and architectural screening, down to tire rims, door handles and bicycle parts.

How long does the powder coating process take?
We can complete a powder coating project in 1 to 2 weeks. Please inquire with one of our project managers for a faster turnaround.
Can a powder coated item have bare spots or multiple colors?
Yes, to both questions. Going one color at a time, we are able to mask off the parts of your piece that you would not like to receive that color. For multiple colors, your item would need to be coated multiple times

IronShield provides surface preparation and high-end coatings for a wide variety of objects and materials. We offer both liquid coating and powder coating services. We can liquid coat, or paint, just about anything that can fit in our 20′ x 10′ x 12′ booth.
We offer powder coating for any object that can hold an electrostatic charge, endure the high heat of our oven, and anything that can fit inside our 35’ x 10’ x 10’ oven. Etching
To prepare metal for powder coating, IronShield first rinses the metal, degreases it, rinses it again and then etches it. IronShield uses phosphate etching to improve the adhesion of the powder to the metal. Materials like aluminum can be very slick and will need a little extra help to keep the powder coat adhered. Phosphate etching also significantly improves the corrosion resistance to ensure that your newly powder coated item is resistant to rusting and will stay in near-new condition.

How to Prevent Rust and Metal Corrosion

If left unprotected, all metal can start to rust and corrode. Metal corrosion is the deterioration of the metal caused by a chemical reaction. This chemical reaction is often from the environment the metal is in, and various climates can lead to rust and corrosion. The good news is that there are ways to protect your metal to keep it from rusting.

Powder Coating Prevents Rust

While a liquid paint coating can help prevent some rusting, powder coating is going to be your most effective option for preventing metal corrosion. Powder coating are applied by the material being electrostatically charged as the powder is blasted on to the product. Once the powder is applied, it is put in an oven and heated into a homogenous gel that evenly coats the entire product. This even goat prevents the metal from being exposed to its surrounding environment or other metals.

Powder coatings are also thicker and more durable than liquid paints, so you won’t have to worry about a nick or ding in the coating leading to a rust spot. Powder coated finishes have extensive durability and longevity, and come in just about any color or finish you desire. Powder coatings are a very effective and aesthetically pleasing way to prevent rust and corrosion.
