A tip ahead of any ice storm.

Don’t use your heat pump while ice is falling outside. If you have a heat pump system w/ auxiliary heat strips. Go to your thermostat and use your emergency heat only during ice storms. A heat pump will freeze up naturally and go into defrost upon demand to thaw out the coil outside. (Gas heat systems do not apply).

During an ice event the outdoor elements will never allow the system to defrost due to ice added naturally to the already normal heat pump defrost cycle. Your outdoor unit can’t compete with ice storms. Although it will try.

Yes, you will use more electricity heating your home. But using emergency heat strips will significantly reduce your outdoor section from failing and will increase your indoor comfort levels. Just remember to change it back over to heat from emergency heat as soon as the ice event has passed.

This setting (emergency heat) should be on your thermostat. If not, this would not apply to your HVAC system. Auxiliary heat is not your emergency heat. A heat pump will use auxiliary heat strips during the heat pump cycle. And is usually present on your thermostat on colder nights and during defrost. Which is normal when outdoor ambient temperatures are below 45°.

Service technician who will perform maintenance and cleanings on residential HVAC equipment. Must have 10 years experience. On most days, technicians will report directly to service calls from their residence. Reporting to the office location is required once per week or as needed. Candidate must be career oriented with high integrity to get the job done correctly the first time. We are a family oriented business.

Apply today if you are career oriented in the HVAC industry. 10-15 years experience is a plus. We are looking for one service tech, who would work all levels for the company. This includes running service calls, maintenance calls for new and existing contract customers, and can hook up new installs. (Soldering copper lines, tying in drain lines, wiring the equipment- low and high voltage, install the thermostat, vacuum copper lines and start up new systems, check for optimal operation of new installs)
Applicant must have good personal hygiene, willing to work extra hours during the high demand seasons of the year in extreme or light working conditions. You must be EPA certified, pass a drug screening, and a back ground check. You must know how to talk to customers. Explaining the work performed as well as knowing how to make a presentation for preventative replacement of parts found on Maintenace calls. Thorough maintenance has been part of our success with keeping loyal customers since opening the business. Most of our customer base is located in Summerville SC.

Due to the current situation during the Covid-19 virus outbreak; Gibson’s All American HVAC will not schedule maintenance service calls until further notice. Only extreme emergency trouble calls will be scheduled at this time. If for any reason you may have been in contact with the Covid-19 virus, we ask you not put our employees in jeopardy of contracting the virus. Heating and Air Conditioning is not considered an essential necessity at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience or discomfort this may cause you, to our most loyal customers and beyond.
