It seems we are all dealing with sick kids this time of year, and yes you can still maintain a good sleep schedule even when your child is sick by following these tips.
1. Provide for your child's needs as you see fit.
2. But still try and stick with your same sleep plan that has been working, don't change the schedule.
3. Keep your child in their own room and own bed. If you let them start sleeping in your bed they will pick up on that habit and it will be harder to break it if your long term goal is not co-sleeping. Yes, even after only a couple of nights.
4. If you are worried about your child being sick and sleeping at night move into their room for a couple of nights even if it means sleeping on an air mattress in their room.
5. It is ok to provide extra comfort when they are sick but try not to add sleep props back in such as rocking or feeding to sleep.
6. If they are needing extra sleep, let them have it. This may mean longer naps during the day or a later morning wake up which is fine while they are sick.
As always, try to maintain consistency no matter what is going on.
