Another great premiere from TradConnect for Matthew Olwell's CyberTrad, who's album release is TODAY! Congratulations to Matthew and the phenomenal line-up he brought to record for the album: Shodekeh Talifero (beatboxer), Aimee Curl (vocals, upright bass), Simon Lepage (bass), Jaige Trudel (cello), and Joey Abarta (uilleann pipes).

"Although Matthew has often served as an accompanying percussionist for other Irish and Old-Time instrumentalists, it is his melodic sensibilities that hold the varied ingredients of CyberTrad together and create a sense of continuity on the album. With strong arrangements of traditional and original compositions, modern instrumentation, and a compelling rhythmicality grounded in Matthew’s deep and personal understanding of dance, CyberTrad sounds both familiar and intriguing. "

Traditional music is a living, breathing thing. It must evolve or become a relic, but it must also maintain a strong connection to its core identity. With Cybe…

We've been working with Matthew Olwell for his latest release CyberTrad. And we're excited to see Folk Radio UK premiering one of Matthew's singles, "Twin Sisters".

With CyberTrad, innovative roots musician Matthew Olwell pays homage to his heritage while breathing new life fusing into Irish and Breton music against a backdrop of Beatboxing and electric bass. Tradition is at the core of Matthew’s playing, but his love of more contemporary musical styles is apparent on CyberTrad. Listening to hip-hop, world music, and funk has informed both his playing and his composing.

With CyberTrad, Matthew had the opportunity to collaborate with Matapat’s bass player Simon Lepage, and also Shodekeh Talifero, a groundbreaking beatboxer & vocal percussionist who pushes the boundaries of the human voice. They are joined by Aimee Curl on vocals and upright bass, Jaige Trudel on cello, and Joey Abarta on uilleann pipes.

Evie Ladin / Band's latest release, Jump the Fire, is out now to radio, and we're getting some GREAT responses. Check out this new video of theirs via Milk Crater!

Milk Crater is asked to premier a fair number of tracks, and we turn down most of them. This is one we couldn’t pass up. As soon as that first bass note twangs into place, you’ll see why. Stripped down with exemplary songwriting taking the spotlight on main stage, Evie Ladin Band’s “Walking in a

It's great to see WFDU's Ron Olesko enjoying the new Evie Ladin / Band CD! Bird's Word PR says THANKS for the support, and we're glad to see this great album getting some spins! Read the review over on Sing Out!'s reviews!

"Jump the Fire stands out because of the combination of respect for the tradition and the understanding that folk music is a living tradition influenced by the community from which it grows. The Evie Ladin trio are poised to share their talents and hopefully encourage other musicians to go deeper into their musical roots and add a that personal touch. That is what makes Jump the Fire so special."

Ron Olesko share his thoughts about the California folk/roots banjo player's latest offering ... and the latest playlist for WFDU's Traditions
