Hot temperatures can be dangerous for both people and pets. Take precautions to prevent heat-related illness:

• Drink plenty of water and limit time outdoors during the hottest part of the day.
• Check on children, older adults, and those who may be more vulnerable to the heat.
• Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.
• Make sure pets have plenty of fresh water and access to shade or air conditioning. Remember, hot pavement can burn their paws.

Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has very hot skin, call 911 immediately.

Starting today, you’ll see our firefighters out at intersections near their stations collecting donations for Muscular Dystrophy Association

We’ll be out today through Sunday, so keep an eye out for our crews and please watch out for our firefighters in the roadway.

If you’re able, we’d greatly appreciate your donation. Every dollar helps support families living with muscular dystrophy and related diseases.

Sometimes you see us like you do in the pictures on the right. Us doing our job.

But sometimes you see us like you do in the pictures on the left. Also us doing our job, Helping people.

Yesterday, a gentleman stopped into Station 3 simply to ask for directions. A little earlier, one of our guys was helping a kid fix his scooter. And in another picture, you can see one of our Lieutenants from Station 9 giving a sticker to a couple kids at a call.

These moments don’t make the news. They don’t show up in our call statistics. But they happen every day in firehouses across our city.

We just enjoy helping someone out, talking to a kid, answering a question, lending a hand, or simply making a positive impact on someone’s day.

Because being a firefighter is about more than just answering the call. It’s about serving our community!

Lt. Wagner’s career included assignments throughout the department, serving as a firefighter and lieutenant. But his service went beyond the firehouse. Todd also served as President of IAFF Local 472 for seven years, dedicating his time and leadership to advocating for the members of our union and the future of the Lafayette Fire Department.

Thank you, Todd, for your years of service, leadership, and commitment to your brothers and sisters.

FILL THE BOOT for Muscular Dystrophy Association

August 28, 29 & 30, LAFAYETTE PROFESSIONAL FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL472 will once again be out in our community Filling the Boot for MDA!

For more than a decade, LOCAL 472 has stood alongside the Muscular Dystrophy Association and our community to make a difference for families living with neuromuscular disease.

Since 2011, Lafayette Professional Firefighters Local 472 has raised more than $500,000 for MDA. That incredible milestone was made possible because of the generosity of the Lafayette community.

Every dollar matters. Every donation makes a difference. And every time you see a firefighter standing at an intersection with a boot in hand, know that we’re not just asking for a donation, we’re asking you to help us make a difference.

Not able to stop by, here is a link to donate on line https://square.link/u/Ao40Kpgm
