⚪️ 2 to 1 NAP TRANSITION⚪️

▪️One of my many reasons for sleep training my kiddos is that I love the predictability of nap time. For the past year or so we’ve been consistently napping around 9 and 1. I planned my day (and free time) around these naps. But then, Camille decided to switch it up on me, just a few weeks shy of 17 months.
▪️This transition usually takes place between 15-18 months.

▪️Here’s what you need to know:

1. Don’t be too quick to transition your baby, the longer you can hold off, the better.

2. Daycare babies are usually forced onto a 1 nap schedule when they move into the 1-year class. 12 months is way too early for 1 nap, so offer 2 naps on the weekends and when the baby is home with you to catch up.

3. You’ll know your baby is ready if they start fighting/refusing/plying the whole time for one of the naps.

4. Once you decide to make the transition, you’ll want to have the 1 nap starting around noon.

5. This transition can take a few weeks.

6. While transitioning, plan for an early bedtime to make up for the lost sleep period.

🔹Have you gone through a nap transition with your baby or toddler? 🔹Any extra tips to offer our fellow mamas?

HALLOWEEN means it’s almost time to FALL BACK 🍂 The time change happens this weekend. So be prepared by having a plan.
If you have a sensitive sleeper and want to prepare, you should put your baby to bed 15 minutes later each night starting Wednesday night.

🍂So for example, if your baby usually goes to sleep at 6:00, bedtime this week will look like this:
W: 6:15
TH: 6:30
F: 6:45
S: 7:00
Su: 6:00
0-4 months old - continue to follow wake windows.
If you have a super sensitive sleeper, you’ll want to adjust meals and naps, as well.

Napping at daycare can be tricky for babies and toddlers. The best thing you can do is to understand the situation, and approach it with a plan. If you've worked with me in the past or had a conversation with me ever, chances are, you've heard me preach -- dark room, blackout shades, white noise, cool temperature, consistency, consistency, consistency! PROBLEM: Raise your hand if your baby has trouble napping during the day because, despite your efforts to make the room as dark as possible, that darn light creeps in through the top of the curtains!

SOLUTION: A valence! This will trap that light and keep the room as dark as possible. An absolutely dark room is the most conducive for sleep. It will help lengthen naps, too!

Happy Father’s Day!! Enjoy your day!

And to all the mamas...enjoy this sleep tip:
✨Get dad involved! Especially when sleep training. Have dad do night feedings, bedtime routine, or middle-of-the-night checks. Babies sense that dads are more “no nonsense” and sometimes it helps to move things along quicker.
