We don’t have a housing shortage—we have a building system problem.

After participating in this week’s Green Building Trainings at UH Maui College, one thing is clear:

We already have the tools to build better housing in Maui—we just need to apply them differently.

Panelized, off-site construction is not just about speed.
It’s about:
• Reducing waste
• Improving quality
• Lowering carbon impact
• Making projects financially viable

At Regen Maui, we are working with B.PUBLIC Prefab and the Lahaina Community Land Trust to apply these principles through the Lokia Living Building Challenge home.

The goal is not just one home.

The goal is to create a model that can scale across Lahaina—starting with smaller, more accessible housing units and growing into something larger.

If we align design, construction, and community priorities, we can build housing that is not only faster and more affordable—but truly in balance with nature.

Building better housing in Lahaina starts this week.

In celebration of Earth Day, UH Maui College is hosting a series of free Green Building Trainings focused on something we urgently need in Maui:

👉 Faster, more affordable, and more sustainable housing.

These sessions will introduce contractors, designers, and builders to:
• Low-carbon building science
• High-performance building envelopes
• Panelized, off-site construction methods

Regen Maui is proud to support this effort alongside B.PUBLIC Prefab and the Lahaina Community Land Trust.

We are actively applying these same strategies to the Lokia Living Building Challenge home—a regenerative, multi-generational home designed to demonstrate how housing in Lahaina can be:
✔ Built faster
✔ More cost-effective
✔ In balance with nature

This is more than a training.
It’s about building local capacity and creating a path to scale sustainable housing across Lahaina.
