🚨 CMS Update: QSO-26-14-NH – Risk-Based Surveys Are Coming
CMS has announced the nationwide implementation of the Risk-Based Survey (RBS) process for qualifying nursing homes, beginning September 2026.
What does this mean for your facility? ✅ High-performing nursing homes may qualify for a streamlined recertification survey. ✅ All facilities will still receive a survey at least every 15 months. ✅ Complaint investigations and resident safety concerns can still trigger a traditional survey at any time. ✅ Only facilities meeting strict eligibility criteria—including strong Five-Star performance, accurate reporting, and a history free of harm-level deficiencies—will qualify.
This is another reminder that survey readiness isn't something you prepare for once a year—it's an everyday commitment.
