🧺 “But I cleaned my dryer vent…”

We hear this a lot and you probably did clean what you could reach! But dryer vents can run much farther than you realize, with bends and turns where lint can build up.

👇 This is an actual vent we recently worked on with a large amount of buildup inside.

At Will’s Appliance Repair, we use a professional brush system to clean through the vent line while our HEPA vacuum captures the lint and debris. We also vacuum lint and debris from inside the dryer and around the dryer area.

⚠️ Restricted airflow matters. It can make clothes take longer to dry, cause your dryer to work harder and run hotter, increase energy use, and cause internal components to wear out faster or fail prematurely.

A few tips:
• If you have flexible venting behind your dryer, check it for kinks, holes or crushed areas.
• Toss the dryer sheets! They can leave residue on your lint screen that can restrict airflow. Try wool dryer balls instead.
• Clean your lint screen after every load and periodically check your outside vent opening for visible lint buildup or anything blocking airflow.

And if we find accessible venting that's damaged or needs to be replaced, that's something we can take care of too.

🚨 The Laundry Products We Never Recommend

At Will's Appliance Repair, we see the damage these products can cause every day.

While dryer sheets and liquid fabric softener may leave your laundry smelling fresh and feeling soft, they're not doing your appliances any favors.

Dryer sheets leave behind a waxy residue that coats your lint screen, moisture sensors, and even the inside of your dryer.

That buildup can cause:
⏳ Longer drying times
🌬️ Restricted airflow
⚙️ Extra wear on your dryer
💸 Higher energy bills
🛠️ Costly repairs
🚫 Moisture sensor issues that prevent clothes from drying properly

And while we're on the subject...

🚫 We also recommend skipping liquid fabric softener.

Liquid fabric softener leaves behind residue inside your washing machine, coating the tub, hoses, and other internal components. Over time, that buildup can contribute to odors, reduce cleaning performance, and create unnecessary service issues.

Instead, try this:
🐑 Wool dryer balls help soften clothes naturally, reduce static, and can even help improve drying efficiency.

🥣 1/4 cup of white distilled vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser is a simple alternative to liquid fabric softener. It helps soften clothes without leaving behind the residue that dryer sheets and fabric softeners can.

A few small changes to your laundry routine can go a long way toward keeping your washer and dryer cleaner and performing the way they're designed to.

Ever wonder where those missing socks disappear to?

Unfortunately, sometimes they don't disappear at all—they end up trapped between your washer's inner and outer tubs or get sucked into the drain pump.

When small items make their way out of the wash basket, they can cause:

💡 Pro Tip: Use a mesh laundry bag for socks, bras, underwear, baby clothes, and other small items. It helps keep them together and prevents them from ending up somewhere they shouldn't.

Your Washer Cleans Your Clothes... But When Was the Last Time You Cleaned Your Washer?

A little maintenance can go a long way in helping reduce odors and buildup.

Try this simple refresh:
✔️ Add 1 cup of white vinegar directly into the drum
✔️ Add ¼ cup of lemon juice directly into the drum
✔️ Run the hottest cleaning cycle available

When the cycle is finished:
✔️ Wipe around the door seal
✔️ Clean the detergent drawer
✔️ Dry any remaining moisture inside the drum

💡 Bonus Tip: Leave the washer door open between loads to help prevent mold and mildew buildup.

🧼 TIPS & TRICKS: Dishwasher Not Draining? 🧼

Before calling for a repair, here are a few quick things you can check yourself:

1️⃣ Check the Air Gap (if you have one)
That little cap on the back of your sink isn’t just decoration! Pop it off and check for food or gunk. A quick clean can get things draining again.

2️⃣ Clean the Filter (Most Dishwashers)
Most dishwashers have a round or square filter at the bottom. Twist and lift it out, rinse it under hot water, and remove any debris. If yours doesn’t have a removable filter, just wipe out the area where water collects.

3️⃣ Run a Quick Rinse
After cleaning, run a rinse cycle to see if the water clears.

Sometimes, that’s all it takes!
