The candle within our Pascha baskets.

It’s easy to think it’s just a simple candle, something cute or decorative on the kulich, but what is it really?

The same flame from the trikirion, the Paschal light of the Resurrection, joins us in our homes as we break the fast. It becomes part of our celebration and adds to the joy of Christ’s victory over death.

The priest holds a trikirion—three candles bound together in one stand. Each flame reveals the Holy Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
As the Trinity is undivided, the flames burn as one.

On Pascha, the Resurrection itself is the work of the Holy Trinity: the Father raises the Son, the Son rises from the dead, and the Holy Spirit gives life.

When m the priest blesses with the three candles,
he shows the truth of the Resurrection in light.

In that quiet, we learn to wait.

The Resurrection rises from this place, from the stillness, from the tomb, from the depth of what has been entered and endured.

The Church leads us step by step into Christ’s suffering, His death, and the silence of the tomb. There is no distance from it. Only presence, only watchfulness.

The quiet that comes when Great Lent draws to its end settles deeply and does not move.
The effort of the fast falls away, and there is nothing left to hold onto.
What remains is stillness, and in that stillness everything becomes clear and close.
