🏔️Summer in Switzerland 🇨🇭
Just a short few weeks ago I was joined by talented professionals from all around the world sharing the passion we have for acupuncture.
The many innovative techniques, treatments and methods used to elevate and treat our patients. I was very honored to be a speaker discussing The Glymphatic System and TCM Beauty: A New Bridge Between Brain Detoxification, Sleep Physiology, and Aesthetic Aging. Where I deepdived in the connection between how important our glymphatic system; (a specialized waste-clearance network in the central nervous system that uses cerebrospinal fluid to flush out metabolic waste from the brain) and how the fluid flow and sleep connection ties to aging.
How It Works
Fluid Flow:
Cerebrospinal fluid flows along the outside of arteries, moves deep into the brain tissue, and mixes with fluid between brain cells.
Waste Removal: This fluid sweeps away cellular byproducts; such as excess proteins and metabolic waste, and pushes them toward the veins to be drained out of the brain.
Sleep Connection: The system is mostly inactive during the day and becomes highly active while you are asleep, particularly during deep, slow-wave sleep.
Why It Matters
Brain Health: Proper function clears out potentially toxic proteins like beta-amyloid, which is linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
Aging and Disease: As people age or experience poor sleep, glymphatic clearance can slow down, which may contribute to neurodegenerative disorders.
