J. Carpenter and I had a dynamic conversation with Susan LePlae Miller (Pieces of I) on our Infuse Compassion Podcast. One of the most powerful leadership shifts we talked about in the episode was this:

Compassion is not over-functioning for people.

Too often, leaders believe being “supportive” means fixing every problem, carrying every burden, or stepping in before their team has the opportunity to grow. But that’s not compassion. That’s over-responsibility.

Real compassion sounds more like:

“I believe in your ability to work through this, and I’m here to support you.”

As leaders, we must learn the difference between rescuing people and empowering them.

One creates dependency.

The other creates confidence, capability, and trust.

Sometimes the most compassionate thing we can do is listen without taking over.

What word aligns your intentions this year?

Sending positive wishes to all my friends and colleagues who celebrate the Chinese New Year (Lunar New Year) beginning Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

It’s the "Year of the Fire Horse"

🐎 Linked to independence, energy, & forward-motion.
🔥May you utilize this time to bring your energy and determination together in a way where your DREAMS turn into ACTIONS.

The last few years I have aligned my "word of the year" with the Lunar New Year. This year I chose the word TRUST.

Admittedly, trust and patience are not my strongest virtues, and yet if I can humbly learn to lean on these qualities, I will be stronger in the long run and more likely to achieve my dreams.

What word aligns your intentions this year?
