Residents with propane tanks in flooded or potentially flooded areas: if you can do so safely, please secure your propane tank by tying it to a tree, post, or another stable object to prevent it from floating away.
If you plan to evacuate, shut off the tank at the service valve located under the lid. The valve looks similar to a water spigot—turn the handle to the right (clockwise) until it stops.
Propane tanks that have tipped over can allow liquid propane to enter the home, which may create a fire hazard when appliances start. Residential propane systems are designed to operate using propane v***r, not liquid.
If your tank has already tipped over there is still electrical power in the area, do not attempt to shut it off, as this could pose a risk of electrocution. Leave it as is and prioritize your safety.
