Deedre Daniel, inventor of the card game and creator of The Very Interesting Game Show®, hosted an unforgettable session for the American Business Women's Association.

Six ABWA members dove in live, playing five games rolled into one: quick thinking and active listening rounds, round-robin "ice destroyers," Convo Spikes featuring unusual facts (such as a Bigfoot migration) for ridiculous and creative answers, True/False rounds betting points on Elizabeth Johnson's answers, and a fun finale debate to practice civil opposing viewpoints.

Laughter filled the event as participants stretched their creative muscles, bonded in a fresh way, and competed to become The Most Interesting Player.

Executive Director Elizabeth Johnson judged the incoming chat answers from a big virtual audience.

Who says you can't build real rapport without being in the same room? Not these rockstars from GEICO's Tech department! 🚀

Deedre hosted a custom holiday edition of The Very Interesting Game Show®. It was pure non-stop laughs with two games running simultaneously: bold live performers duking it out for "Most Interesting Player." At the same time, chat warriors fired off killer answers from the "audience" in a game-within-a-game format.

She kicked things off with quick-thinking rounds to get everyone locked in, laughing, and not looking at their email. Then came carefully crafted Round Robin questions that uncovered surprising new insights about coworkers no one knew before. Next up: Convo Spikes built around bizarre facts, followed by wild prompts to cultivate creativity and generate more laughter. The answers were next-level absurd and hilarious!

Deedre mixed in empathy-building True/False rounds, where players bet points on what they thought someone else would answer, while not focusing on being "right." It shifts their mindset from winning arguments to understanding others' perspectives, a skill we could all use more of in a world obsessed with being correct.

She wrapped with a fun debate that proved you can passionately disagree and still laugh and be buddies when it's over.
Not everyone joined the group photo (privacy respected!), but massive congrats to chat champs Sandy, Stacy, Ben, and Kim. Huge thanks to Beatrice and Mike for trusting Deedre to deliver the energy.

Deedre Daniel ran a 2.5-hour session with the fabulous Lakeland Chamber of Commerce board last week, and she was thrilled to report that she did not see anyone checking their phone during her talk. That's either a miracle or proof that her signature keynote "How to be More Interesting Than a Cell Phone" actually works! 😂

They also played "The Very Interesting Game" instead of the usual "tell us something about yourselves" icebreakers. They spiked conversations like caffeinated volleyball players, unleashed creative thinking that had been tucked under spreadsheets, and laughed so hard their faces hurt.

People often think that fun is frivolous, but it isn't. Laughter relieves stress and has been clinically proven to have a healing effect, even reducing pain. According to neuroscience research, more than five brain regions work together in a complex neural network to process humor, including the frontal lobe, prefrontal cortex, nucleus accumbens, and temporal regions—all collaborating in your brain's hilarious little comedy club. Laughing signals intelligence.

But it is more than that - when we laugh together, we are agreeing with each other - even if for a fleeting moment.

And that leads us to her favorite part of the day: Watching these professional powerhouses debate hilariously ridiculous topics. It turns out you CAN disagree without being disagreeable – who knew?!

This video is a compilation of three different "Ignite" sessions at the ASAE The Center for Association Leadership Annual Meetings in 2016, 2019, and 2023.

In this session, several speakers told a story that had to last exactly five minutes. No more, no less. Twenty PowerPoint slides auto-advanced behind the speaker every 15 seconds. The speaker had to synchronize their words with the slides without using a remote control. It is more difficult than delivering an hour-long keynote.

Most speakers stick to serious topics or the occasional safe joke because if you tell a joke and no one laughs, then the speaker is stuck standing there in awkward silence as they wait for the slides to advance. Conversely, if the audience laughs too long, then the speaker has to either talk over them to match the next slide or skip some rehearsed lines. Comedy is dangerous.

We created this video using some of the audience's favorite jokes from the three Ignite sessions to demonstrate how Deedre incorporates stand-up comedy into her corporate presentations.

Most of these jokes had not been tested at an open mic or other audiences. It was a gamble that paid off!
