A contractor said something to me early on that stuck.
“We have ads everywhere, but the good guys never apply.”
At first, it sounded like frustration.
Then I started hearing the same thing from HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical companies in different markets.
Same problem. Different logo on the truck.
They had job posts up.
They had Indeed running.
They had a careers page.
They had someone checking applications every morning.
But the people coming through were not the people they needed.
Meanwhile, the technicians they actually wanted were already working for someone else.
That was the pattern.
The strongest techs were not usually “in the market.”
They were on call.
They were fixing the problem nobody else could figure out.
They were annoyed about pay, tired of broken promises, or wondering if there was a better company out there — but they were not always taking the first step.
That changed the way I looked at hiring.
Skilled trades recruiting is not just about filling a job.
It is about understanding the person behind the truck.
What would make a good tech listen?
What would make them trust the conversation?
What would make them believe your company is actually different?
That is a big part of why Absolute.Jobs exists.
To help companies stop waiting on the same thin pool of applicants and start reaching the working technicians who are open, but not obvious.
If that sounds like the hiring problem you’re facing, message me and let’s compare notes.
