Let's talk about fuel:
The biggest thing to remember with all gas powered equipment is to buy the premium, 91 octane fuel, and to keep it fresh. From the time you get it out of the pump you have 30 days before it could start causing issues. So the fuel you probably still have left over from lawn mowing season is definitely no good by now. That's why blowers have so many fuel problems, because its not uncommon to have a tank of fuel sitting for a couple months, depending on the season. A good way to dispose of old fuel, assuming it is free of debris, is to just put it in your car. Since they all have modern fuel injection systems, they're much less sensitive to older fuel.
Lately, we've been recommencing that you use Tru-Fuel or VP 4 cycle fuel in your blower, since they tend to sit quite a bit in-between storms. It's an engineered fuel with no ethanol or harmful additives. It is much more shelf stable than regular pump gas, so it can sit for longer periods of time without any issues. After every carburetor replacement or repair we do, we always empty the old fuel and add some of this. Its great stuff! You can buy it at Home Depot, or a hardware store.
