I urge all to buy a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) or "battery box." If your home is subjected to a power surge or transformer blows, the UPS will take the hit and not your computer. In most cases the UPS may be fried but your computer will be saved. Any office supply or computer store sells them for about $50-$100 depending on bells and whistles.

Laptop Cooling Pad recommendation. Wonderful product from Belkin. Provides raised and tilted platform as well as cooling fan. While only using one fan, the concave design of the platform provides more heat dispersion than traditional flat platforms. Smaller version available from Wal-Mart for $25.

Most laptop cooling pads work well on a table or desk. Sometimes we like to use our laptops on our laps while sitting on the sofa. The Laptop Cooling Lounge's extra width and adjustable height are perfect for IM'ing and surfing comfortably, while the cooling fan keeps the heat off your legs.

REMINDER. If you received a new computer for Christmas be sure you have the Recovery Disks. Many newer computers with either CD or DVD writers do NOT supply them -- the owner is expected to burn a set. Also note that burning the Recovery Disk Set is a one shot deal; you will not be able to burn additional copies.

Be aware. Another FALSE email is circulating supposedly from the FDIC. States that "the bank you use [yes, NOT named] has failed." It includes a link. This is, of course, not from the FDIC. Once again, read these emails carefully. YOU will nt be named nor will your banking institution. These should be tip offs that it is a possibly malicious email.

Be aware of a couple of new spam emails circulating. One may show Microsoft as the sender. In the text you are advised that security settings have been changed and you should log into a link to reconfigure your Outlook. Need I say, "DON'T DO IT?"
