You don’t need an extensive array of lenses to achieve successful fittings!

By starting with the correct diameter, you can reduce your diagnostic set from 12 lenses to just 6. This approach leads to less clutter, quicker fittings, and increased confidence in your choices.

Modern OrthoK design is no longer about choosing curves from a fitting set.

Acculens OrthoK lenses are built using elevation-based calculations, allowing each lens to match the eye’s unique geometry for improved centration and treatment stability.

With a continuous S-curve architecture and dual-meridian alignment, the design adapts smoothly from optic zone to landing zone—allowing precise adjustments without disrupting the overall lens structure.

Good data builds great OrthoK results.

OrthoK adjustments should follow the treatment map—not just fluorescein.

If the treatment zone is centered but vision is off, adjust the target power (Jessen factor).

If the map shows a central island, reduce sagittal depth.
If there’s central bearing or staining, increase sagittal depth.

With Acculens’ elevation-based design, changes are recalculated across the entire lens—maintaining stability while refining the treatment zone.

Central vault is a critical factor in specialty lens fitting!

Aim for a clearance of 250-300 microns over the steepest part of the cornea to allow enough room for settling and proper clearance. Understanding this measurement is essential for ensuring a successful fit and enhancing patient comfort.

The first OrthoK check isn’t about perfection—it’s about predictable lens behavior.

At dispense, look for centration, balanced alignment zones, and the classic bullseye fluorescein pattern.

This pattern confirms that hydraulic forces are guiding epithelial redistribution as intended.

Remember: the real measure of success comes from post-wear topography and treatment progression, not the first fluorescein view.

In OrthoK design, the Back Optic Zone Diameter (BOZD) shapes the treatment zone.

Smaller BOZDs concentrate the effect—often ideal for younger patients or higher myopia.

Larger BOZDs widen the treatment area, which can improve visual transitions and reduce halos in adult patients.

Because Acculens lenses use continuous S-curve geometry, adjusting BOZD automatically recalculates sagittal depth and alignment to maintain balanced lens behavior.

In OrthoK, the lens is only as good as the data behind it.

Acculens designs rely on accurate elevation inputs to calculate sagittal depth, alignment zones, and treatment geometry.

Clean scans, reliable keratometry, and consistent corneal diameter measurements allow the design engine to create a stable, centered treatment zone from the start.

Better data → more predictable lenses.

Proper lens application is crucial for achieving the best fit!

To ensure accuracy, fill the lens with preservative-free saline and fluorescein, then have the patient look down while you apply it from below. If you notice any air bubbles, it’s essential to remove and reapply the lens for a perfect fit.
