We need to move to a more systemic analysis of elder abuse. To substantially reduce abuse, we need to go the root. America is the world's most extreme of example of a racialized capitalist economy. We don't value elders because they're not "productive." So we don't support family caregivers (no federal paid family leave) and we don't adequately pay professional caregivers who are predominantly persons of color. So, they work long hours, hold down two jobs, burn themselves out, and come to work on edge. And we made the historic mistakes of 1) growing nursing home care and 2) allowing for-profit companies into long term care. Your view?
