Here’s the “official” hours for the mini grocery pop-up activation we’re hosting as part of the Sunny South Dallas Food Park this month! 🎃🍁

📅 Opening day - Friday, October 30th!
⏰ 12p - 4p
📍 3400 S. Fitzhugh Ave.

📅 Saturday, October 31st (during the food park)
⏰ 10a - 4p
📍 3400 S. Fitzhugh Ave.

‼️ the grocery store will be OPEN and set up in the Multi-Arts Room A at the South Dallas Cultural Center! Tell a neighborhood, share with community members in/around South Dallas, and come by! Fresh produce, veggies, and products from some of the BEST Black owned businesses in the DFW! 😤

➡️ a pop-up like you haven’t seen before geared around food sovereignty, Black third spaces, and economic buying power/ownership 🤞🏾

➡️ we still need a name for the grocery store! What should we name it?? 👀 Drop your suggestions in the comments!

🌱 we’re designing a pop up grocery store that’s gonna showcase all the conversations we’ve been having about food accessibility in South Dallas. So we’re documenting the process of taking this from idea 💡to ex*****on 📝 in real time as lil’ series.

What does that mean though? ➡️ we’re learning how to structure and run a grocery store in our communities at a scale that works - economically and culturally.

📌 what will people actually buy + pricing
📌 how they interact w/a “grocery store” that reflects the community
📌 what this feels like as a community safe space

📝 more info about volunteering, the “store hours”, resources, materials, and all that will be posted next week here and on the food park page.

If nothing else I can always say I get to fully be myself in whatever space I’m in 🫶🏾

This was more than just a conversation but really divine experience within the essence of Black places, culturally, economically, communally, and above all INTENTIONALLY. It’s a reason I’m always yelling place keeping instead of placemaking in our spaces..

Thank you Ms. Wise for saying yes to this idea in the fly, catering it, AND connecting Nijeul to me like this. I’m forever grateful 🧡

For the last 5 years I’ve been curating the as something more than a special event. Exploring the meaning of “third places” in Black spaces from a different perspective.

More than food park truly… for 20+ dates and every so many months someone asks/says:

Why don’t you scale?
Why not make it a festival?
What’s the point of it?
Why not be like (insert other large event)?
🫠

The answers are simple but complex at the same time lol. But after 5 years it’s a good time to unpack all the pieces openly with the community and the people that support what we do..
