The boys out moving dirt

08/28/2026

Good dirt work isn’t just pushing dirt around.

Before the first cut is made, we’re surveying elevations, checking grades, laying out drainage, and figuring out where every yard of material needs to go.

That setup is what lets us work efficiently once the machines start moving — and helps make sure the finished project drains, grades, and performs the way it should.

Anybody can move dirt. The planning is what makes the dirt work.

GPS on a dozer isn't just about making the job easier.

It gives the operator a live reference for where the finished grade needs to be. As we're pushing stone, we can see where we're high, where we're low, and how much material needs to move.

That means we can build the grade to the plan as we go instead of constantly stopping to check elevations.

On projects where drainage, slope, and stone depth matter, a few inches can make a big difference.

That's why we use GPS.

Planning a new barn, pond, or farm expansion?

Good dirt work starts with understanding how the farm actually needs to work — drainage, truck access, elevations, water management, and making the best use of the material already on site.

Flat Out Excavating works with farmers on barn sites, ponds, drainage, farm lanes, clearing, and site development.

If you have a project in mind, even if it’s still in the planning stages, send us a message. We’re happy to look at it, talk through the options, and see what makes sense for your farm.

A good driveway starts long before the first bucket of dirt is moved. We use GPS machine control to find the exact grade and location from the engineered plans, so we know exactly where to cut, fill, and shape the driveway. Better accuracy means better drainage, less wasted material, and a finished product that's built right from day one.
