Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., there are several locations across Western Placer County providing FREE and anonymous drop-off for unused and expired medications and va**ng devices. Can’t make it to this event? Placer County residents can drop off unused or expired medication and sharps every day for FREE between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Western Placer Waste Management Authority (WPWMA)’s public disposal facilities (3195 Athens Avenue, Lincoln, CA 95648). This is what happens when you throw batteries away in your trash can.

Earlier this week we had a close call at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). One of our community's residential collection garbage trucks arrived with a fire, caused by this lithium ion battery. Luckily our team acted quickly and we were able to extinguish the fire, but things very quickly could have escalated.

While they may appear harmless, when you throw batteries away in your trash can at home, they can become extremely dangerous, causing serious fires and endangering garbage trucks, our recycling equipment, and our staff.
