The Pittsburgh Penguins are set to receive a new owner. The NHL Board of Governors has unanimously approved the sale of the Pens to the Hoffmann Family of Companies, a Florida-based private equity firm which owns nearly 120 brands across 30 countries. Geoff Hoffmann, who serves as CEO of Hoffmann Family Cos., will be the new governor of the Penguins. The sale price is expected to be around $1.75 billion. The now-previous owners, Fenway Sports Group, purchased the team from then-owner and franchise legend Mario Lemieux for $900 million in 2021. The Hoffmann’s also own the Florida Everglades, a minor league hockey team which is now a candidate to become the Penguins' new AA-affiliate team, replacing the Wheeling Nailers.
