Horst Excavating

Horst Excavating For 60+ years, Horst Excavating has exceeded the needs of general contractors, developers, government services, and private organizations.

No matter the size or scope of your project, we are the excavating company that does sitework right. For over 120 years, the Horst name has been synonymous with high standards. Joseph Horst established this reputation in the late 1800s when he took on his first construction project for Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church in Lancaster County, PA. In 1961, Abram Horst Jr. and Clyde Horst, grea

t-grandsons to Joseph, founded Horst Excavating. What started as an economical way to provide equipment and services for construction projects quickly became a solid business venture. Today, Horst Excavating is a business unit of the Horst Group. Our years of experience, combined with a top-notch safety record and the latest technologies and field equipment, have built strong foundations for municipal infrastructure, commercial buildings, educational facilities and wind farms throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania and beyond. No matter the project size, you can always count on Horst Excavating to deliver experience, innovation and value. http://www.horstexcavating.com/

Pennsylvania soil doesn’t make excavation one size fits all.
From rocky ground and clay-heavy soil to hidden utilities and constantly changing site conditions, every jobsite brings its own challenges.

At Horst Excavating, experience matters because knowing what’s below the surface can make all the difference above it. Our team plans, adapts quickly, and works to keep projects moving safely and efficiently through every phase of construction.
Different soil. Different plan. Same commitment to doing it right.

From the early stages of sitework to the latest paving progress, Bishop Park is continuing to come to life.
Every phase of excavation and site development helps move the project one step closer to becoming a space the community can enjoy for years to come. It’s exciting to look back at where the project started and see how far it has progressed already.
We’re proud to be part of the work happening at Bishop Park and look forward to sharing more updates as the project continues moving forward.

They gave everything, and never asked for anything in return.
Today we honor the men and women who laid down their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is carried in the lives we live, the work we do, and the freedoms we often don’t stop to think about.
We remember them. We honor them. And we don’t take what they gave lightly.
From all of us at Horst Excavating let their remembrance be as lasting as the land they honored.

After nearly 20 years with Horst Excavating, Carl has become much more than our Shop Foreman. He’s one of the people who helps keep everything moving behind the scenes each day.

From coordinating repairs and troubleshooting breakdowns to managing parts inventory and supporting our field crews, no two days are ever the same in the shop. Carl’s experience, creativity, and problem-solving mindset have made him someone our team can always count on no matter what comes through the doors.

When talking about what it takes to work in this industry, Carl emphasized the importance of hard work, adaptability, and being willing to solve problems even when the answer is not always obvious. As equipment continues to evolve and become more advanced, so does the work that goes into keeping it running.

After almost two decades at Horst, Carl says one thing has remained constant: the people.
“A lot of times it’s the people that keep you at a place for a long time.”

That kind of loyalty is built through years of teamwork, trust, and always being someone others can rely on.

While much of Carl’s work happens behind the shop doors, the impact of it is felt on every project we complete. We are grateful for everything he brings to Horst Excavating and proud to spotlight someone who has dedicated nearly 20 years to helping keep our team moving forward.

Thank you, Carl, for your hard work, leadership, and commitment.

Did you know?
The word “excavate” literally means “to hollow out” and that’s exactly where every project begins.
Before anything goes up, it all starts here. Cutting, shaping, and preparing the ground the right way so everything that follows is built to last.
It’s more than moving dirt. It’s setting the foundation for everything that comes next.

A good day at the shop.

Our newest skid loaders officially rolled in this week, and we’re ready to put them to work. From loading and grading to site cleanup and support work across our projects, these machines will help keep our crews productive and our jobs moving forward.

Nothing beats seeing new equipment hit the fleet.

You’ve probably walked past it without even realizing.
Rain gardens aren’t just landscaping; they’re working behind the scenes to manage stormwater, reduce flooding, filter pollutants, and protect our local environment.
This is one of those projects we’re especially proud of here in Lancaster City. It looks great, but more importantly, it works.
Curious how it all comes together and why it matters

Strong foundations come in many forms.
Today we’re celebrating the moms, grandmothers, and mother figures who put in the hard work every day, often behind the scenes, shaping the lives and futures around them.
From all of us at Horst Excavating, Happy Mother’s Day 💐
