Chop wood and carry water.

Both through and after your shock and grief.

Carry on.
Make your art.
Speak your mind.
Rally around what you stand for.

When you are ready come out from your den of despair— and head toward the Light.

There is great work to be done.

Your body.
Your mind.
Your voice.
Your soul.

Every single part of you is needed..

When you are ready, chop wood and carry water.
And Remember:
You are free to weep as you do so.
Remember: You are free to set it down when it overwhelms you.
Remember: You are free to ask for help.
Remember: Kindred spirits are everywhere waiting to be seen and invited to the effort.

Together, moment by moment, day by day, year by year we will get through this together.

Chopping wood and carrying water.

Today is the day my new book, Presence, Distilled, heads to the printers! It should be available on Barnes & Noble, Inc. and Amazon within 24-28 hours.

It is a companion to my first book, Leadership, Distilled: Twelve Brief Lessons, One Big Impact.

Drawing on my experience as a performing artist and nearly twenty years of coaching, this new book outlines Five Points of Presence: Breath, Posture, Gesture, Content, and Mindset, which I believe are cornerstones to being a better human being and a standout leader.

No matter where you are on your journey to discovering who you are and how you show up in the world, Presence, Distilled offers keen insights to those who wish to cultivate deepened awareness and practical guidance toward unleashing a uniquely personal brand of Presence.

My dream is also to inspire educators, coaches, facilitators, and mentors to pass the Power of Presence on to anyone, anywhere, who desires it.

Thank you, Stef O'Keefe, for your brilliant editing, Sarah L Minor Design for the cover design, and to my dear friends Dean Bell, Saoirse J Storey, and Jack Uldrich for adding your kind words to the back cover. And to every client I have ever had, you and my mentors are my finest teachers.

Here's an excerpt from a recent article on Medium. It's an initiative of awareness and compassion and practical tips for our online workplace:

Let's initiate a sense of space and grace regardless of our circumstances. Let's find a way to honor and assist artists and service workers, overworked teachers, the homeless, and poverty struck… Let's give a wider berth when walking and wave to people on the street since they can't see us smile. Let's use our words to say how we feel. Let's slow down and use short phrases like, I see you. I get that, I hear you, I'm sorry. Let's mean those things when we say them. And if we lack words… Let's simply hold silence and breathe together. Let's laugh when someone's cat, dog, child, or partner enters the online meeting. Let's cancel meetings when the technology is on the fritz so people can go out and play instead. Let's have fewer Zoom meetings and when we do have to have them, let's consider it a conversation rather than a presentation. Let's consider sharing a good meal in our virtual spaces as we speak. Let's collectively remember to put the mute button on when someone is speaking and turn it back on when it's our turn to talk. Let's allow people to work from their bedrooms and wear jammie pants if that's their M.O. Let's say to hell with all past etiquette and blunder through to the next set of norms - if there are even to be norms. Let's explore like children in a safe wood. Let's assume those we encounter mean well and desire many, but not all, of the same things we do. Let's think about other's safety and well-being. Let's learn to listen and observe and start embracing that we really do live in a melting pot and that lines are blurred and beautiful - the world is becoming abstract art, and that not everyone likes abstract art. Let's think about when we say things like, "Hey guys," not everyone identifies as a "guy" and that there is a simple way around that - Let's say their names. Let's consider that some of the world's greatest geniuses are isolated in small villages or tents and don't possess the internet. They have yet to make their voice known, and it may not be online. Let's open our eyes and ears for those messages. Let's remember that some who are touted as geniuses are really just the product of advertising and quick propaganda. Let's ponder the fact that almost every religion in the world begins its stories with a garden-like state that gets f - d up. Let's look up and out and experience wonder and awe. Let's be ready and willing to absorb the lessons there are to behold in Nature. Let's expand our minds and hearts and metaphors to the point of a big bang-like expansion and see what happens next.

Teaching an online workshop last week I utilized the following phrase of creating "space & grace" as an important concept and a paradigm shift I'd like to promote.

You can read more about it in this article I wrote for Medium.
