NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center

NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center Applied agricultural research for regional farmers and ranchers designed to address production problems.

The Langdon Research Extension Center (LREC) was established in 1909 and is located one mile east of Langdon, North Dakota (ND) on US highway five. The agricultural land base at the station consists of 549 owned acres and an additional 205 acres under lease agreement. The LREC serves a nine county region located in northeast ND that is characterized by high precipitation rates, cool temperatures a

nd rich productive soils. The climate favors the production of cool season crops and also supports high levels of recurring disease problems for several crops growing in ND. LREC research priorities reflect the greatest need for the regions producers. The agronomic research program conducts tests on all crops grown in ND, but focuses more directly on HRSW, winter wheat, canola, flax, soybeans, dry edible beans, faba beans, hemp and other crops that dominate acreage in the region. A second major research program includes crop protection with an emphasis on overall disease management of all ND crops. An active Foundation Seed Stocks increase program and support for main station cropping research activities round out the stations activities.
