Dear Shootrite Family, Gretchen here, you guys were with me on the darkest day of my life and it seemed only fitting for you to know about the brightest🥰. Two weeks ago I married a truly wonderful man who has quickly become my closest partner and best friend. We’ve known each other for decades and have walked an extremely similar path. I look forward to years and years of happiness and joy as Gretchen Hess, wife to Jim. Thank you all for being so wonderful to me these last years and for keeping so much of what Tiger brought to this community alive. You’re all so wonderful ❤️

Gretchen McKee here, I have known Tim Carroll for a long time and can attest to his ability as an instructor and his faithful dedication to the philosophy behind Tiger’s training method. Tiger loved having the opportunity to train this man, “brother”, and looked forward to passing along all he could offer. If you knew Tiger you knew he was a perpetual student but what few knew is that he was a mentor to many. Tiger knew that teaching should be the most humbling of professions because it shows you how much you don’t know (that is, “if you are doing it right”), passing on what you know is how you keep a thing alive and that is what Tim is doing. I encourage this Facebook community to train with Tim at least one because once will turn into always. He is my trainer and, trust me, he has taken what he learned from Tiger and expanded it in the best of ways. I have given him full permission to use this space because he earned it and deserves it. You’ll thank me later😁

Dear Shootrite Family,

My name is Tim Carroll, and I had the privilege of serving as an adjunct instructor here at Shootrite under the guidance of Tiger McKee. For anyone who trained here, you already know that Tiger was more than a fi****ms instructor. He was a mentor, a craftsman, and a man who carried himself with humility and discipline. He had a way of cutting through the noise and teaching the heart of a skill, not just the motions. His unexpected passing in 2023 left a deep void not only in this community but across the training world.

The time I spent learning from Tiger shaped me both as an instructor and as a person. He set a standard that went far beyond accuracy or speed — it was about mindset, responsibility, and respect for the craft. Those lessons stay with me to this day, and they guide how I approach every class I teach. My goal has never been to replace or overshadow what Tiger built, but to carry forward the same level of clarity, discipline, and excellence that defined Shootrite.

I continue to teach and share what I learned from Tiger through my own training company, LFX Training. If you’d like to stay informed about upcoming classes and training opportunities, you can follow me here: https://www.facebook.com/LFXFi****msTraining

This page will always remain dedicated to honoring Tiger’s vision and legacy. Shootrite was, and always will be, his creation. I’m simply grateful to have been a small part of it and to have the chance to carry his lessons forward for those who never had the opportunity to train with him directly. Every time I step onto the range to teach, I hear Tiger’s voice in the back of my mind reminding me of the standards he lived by — and I do my best to honor that.

For those of you who trained under Tiger here at Shootrite, you’ll recognize the same principles in my classes — the same focus on discipline, clarity, and respect for the craft. His influence continues in every lesson.

Dear Shootrite Community,

Thank you.

Thank you for your generosity, your prayers, your support [both physical and emotional], and for loving and respecting Tiger as much as you do. Seeing this out of such a large and diverse group has been amazing and touched me so deeply.

I want to apologize for getting this out to you all later than I had hoped but, as you can imagine, these last several weeks have been hard to say the least. My life has been a steady stream of conflict between rational and irrational thoughts and behaviors. Death is not something I can easily rationalize and that would have frustrated Tiger a lot, he was not a fan of reactionary behavior as some of you may know but he knew how I worked and how to balance me, so he would understand.

When someone is suddenly and without warning ripped from the fabric of a life the holes left behind appear to be irreparable but repair you must. With each mending I see the broken threads that need to be knotted to new ones and those threads are reinforced with the fibers given to me by friends and strangers who care enough to see a new life go forward, you have given me those threads and I deeply thank you.

Tiger impacted every single person he encountered, either good or bad he left an impression, that’s who he was. He walked entirely to his own beat and never apologized for it.

Tiger was a man of great integrity and honor and believed at his core that honesty and trust were the primary traits of any upright man, everything after that just fell into place.

We reinforced the threads of our life together by encouraging each other in those areas and pushing each other to always learn new things and try, just try. There might be failure but, is it failure if you learn and grow? He didn’t think so. Ours was a life of constant learning and growing, this is what he believed God designed us to do and so he did it. He would always say, “When you stop learning you’re dead.”

Well, he apparently learned all he needed to and now it’s our turn to carry all he taught us and give it to others. Some of you out there had learned a great deal from Tiger, he believed when he learned something he had a responsibility to pass it along, so take it and give what you learned to someone else.

That’s what I’ll be doing as I continue to repair the fabric of a life shared with absolutely the best part of me, my precious husband Tiger.
